Sixth inning. It looks like a Giants fan in the stands just caught a hit ball...he all smiles. But almost immediately some men who appeared to be S F Giants personnel came and started talking to the fan. They were big guys. Media employees began to surround the scene. A young woman was shown to be with the fan. Intense conversation seemed to take place. (My volume was on mute, like for most of the tv watching around here. Pretty sure the conversation would not have been broadcast real time anyway since so few are.) Some sort of mystery or problem was happening. It looked to end with the female companion of the man who caught the ball walking away at last. She was chatting on a phone, looking pleased, waving some kind of paper. I turned up the volume. Announcers Krukow and Kuiper kept mentioning the word "waiver" and the word "deal". They sounded uncomfortable. No complete explanation was provided, though there had been many camera shots of pretty much the whole incident. Wonder if tomorrow's papers will explain.

At first the Reds challenged the play claiming fan interference. There was a double challenge, the play at the plate was questioned by the Giants.

After a prolonged delay and many conferences and waiting for NY to weigh in...the Giants prevailed in both. It was ruled that there was no fan interference, and the runner was ruled out at the plate.

Giants went on to lose anyway.

Jarrett Parker had hit his 1st Major League HR in the bottom of the 5th. The Giants employees were negotiating to get the ball back for him..
