Woo-hoo !!!!!

I'm a Bay Area native who lives in the Houston metro.

I'm an A's and Giants fan first, but love the Astros as my #3 team .

Astros acquire Justin Verlander from Tigers in blockbuster trade

"Hooray!" Detroit Tigers' fans may say with the departure of Justin Verlander. Verlander has been good. He has not been good in recent seasons. (The Tigers have additional problems to address in the off-season.)

Verlander will get his second wind in Houston. That World Series title has eluded him, and here's his best chance.

And the Astros somehow pulled this trade off without giving away their top two prospects, Kyle Tucker and Forrest Whitley.

Verlander was the Cy Young runner up in 2016.

I believe McCullers has made his last rehab appearance and will be back in the rotation momentarily.

The Dodgers are going to be tough.

The addition of Verlander, and the return of McCullers, help renew my faith in an Astros vs. Dodgers World Series.

The combination of being a Giants fan and O'Malley ownership used to fuel my intense hatred of the Dodgers ( even though I got to throw a ball around with Ron Cey when I was younger and he was early in his career.....my best friend's neighbor is Cey's cousin), but with Magic now a part owner, and the O'Mayyeys long ago in the rear view mirror, I have mellowed a bit.

The only correct part of your comment is about the problems the Tigers have to address.

Verlander went 16-9 with a 3.04 earned run average in 2017. The Boston Red Sox's Rick Porcello went 22-4 with a 3.15 earned run average to win the Cy Young Award in the American League. If Verlander won more decisions with better support from the Detroit Tigers, he could have won the award.

Verlander has not had another 2011 season. He struggled in the 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons. He is 10-8 with a 3.82 earned run average into the 2017 season. My concerns could be Verlander showed success years ago, but has never stepped back up.

The link does mention that he has a 2.41 ERA in 10 starts since the All-Star break.

It's always easy to make a point when you only give certain information. I'd be curious to see how he is against teams like the Yankees, Boston & Indians. I believe he has bad numbers against the Indians but if he does well against the Yankees & Boston that is a big plus going into the playoffs.
