This has been brought up many times around social media/sports news for talking topics. Last Sunday night ESPN Baseball they were talking about the idea of having a runner start on 2nd & 1st after the 12th inning? This would help end those long extra inning games.

I hate the idea. Call me a purist I just think that changes a lot & I'd rather see other things happen before that.

Got me thinking though. If you had to pick between a runner on 2nd after the 12th or a straight TIE (like hockey) which one would you choose?

I almost think I'd rather have a tie game.

Ties are ridiculous, I keep teams playing until they have a winner. Same for basketball.

Agree. No changes.

Members of the media need to think up new stuff
to fill the air time. That's all.

What are they trying to do? Turn baseball into a beer ball softball game?

The media along with spineless owners are only a couple rule changes away from turning the NFL into flag football, why must we do a similar thing with baseball. Soon they'll have a rule banning any pitches faster than 100 mph due to the "danger". Every pitch over 100 will be an automatic "ball". Maybe we can make the pitchers throw off of flat ground with the catcher telling the batter what each pitch will be to "make it fair". Anything to add more offense. Does anyone question whether the baseball is juiced compared to what was used in prior years? AAA minor league baseball is using the same baseball as the one used in the majors and their home-run numbers have skyrocketed as well.

Yea, what I stated is an exaggeration. Then again, nothing surprises any more.

They were going to do that at the All-Star game in extra innings.

I actually like the idea of starting a runner on 1st in the 10th. Then starting a runner on 2nd in the 12th. It would add strategy especially in the 10th and 11th where you decide how you want to move your runner and execute

Does putting a runner on base really change the probability of shortening the game? Both sides will have the advantage, so it is a wash. You increase the chances of a run being scored, but you increase it for both teams.

I also wonder about how the official scoring will be handled in such situations. If the runner who started the inning on base scores, is that charged to the pitcher who didn't put him there?
