That's exactly what the Giants just did. They signed the former Astro and Twin shortstop for a whopping 13-year deal worth $350 million. He doesn't stay particularly healthy for long periods of time, so we'll just see.
Bogoerts got 280mm for 11 years, Derek Jeter retired at 40 yet they gave Bogoerts a contract through age 41?

These long contracts will be the new Jacoby Elsbury deals, payments for years on injured players.

After my last post about Narvaez, I heard two sports radio hosts, on air, discussing Correa's contract, and they mentioned that one thing that some of these teams might be thinking about re these long contracts is helping avoiding the luxury tax and how successfully doing that balances out re what you're pointing out above when trying to assess value/the best product and profitability long term.

JD Martinez to Dodgers. 1 year 10m. This likely means Justin Turner will be else where in 2023 if he chooses to play.

As a Braves fan, I'm okay with this. Swanson's a .250 hitter who was 2nd in the NL in strikeouts..good riddance.

The last Braves big ticket free agent the Cubs took was Jason Heyward....train wreck for the Cubs.

This one won't be as bad, but tel me how you feel as Cubs fans 5 years from now.

Justin Turner to Red Sox. 2 years 22million. Opt out after 1st season.

This isn't surprising after JD signed with the Dodgers. Although I'm a bit surprised he was able to get 2 years.
