And if you think playing poorly on the road won't affect them when they have a 2.5-game lead, you're kidding yourself. Will it kill them? Probably not. But when the lead is so small, losing a game here and there can make a difference.
You'll never guess which team (it's actually a tie) has the best road record...
Again, you keep saying that a team with one of the best road records in baseball is playing "poorly" on the road. You just can't get off that subject for some reason, and it's kind of hilarious.
But to answer your question... as long as the team they're 2.5 up on (make that 3.5 now) plays comparably mediocre at home, then yes, the Cubs can continue to play poorly -- that is, to have one of the best road records -- on the road.
Everyone is in interleague action with the exception of the Cards, who have the lone NL game against Philly. Chicago and St. Louis just keep rolling, and both of them won this afternoon. Everyone else plays tonight. The Astros are continuing their perplexing season, and, yet, they're still not putting everything together when they should (their bullpen lost the game for them last night), and they get the Yankees at Minute Maid through Sunday.
So, answer me this: how do the Cardinals lose three at home to the Royals, then turn around and win a series against the Red Sox at Fenway (the only series they've lost at home all season)? That blows my mind. I am still, however, amazed at how well they've played so far this season. We just took a series from Boston that didn't feature our two best players…
The good news is that Pujols should be playing by Thursday, and everybody else (Wainwright, Molina, etc.) will be back shortly. Can't wait.

While it's only June, it is starting to appear this much: The Cubs and Cards are going to have to take care of business against each other to determine who wins the division. Seems like there's a pretty fair chance they will both make the playoffs.

Scattershooting / Update News
Here are some other tidbits for you. I'm sure, by now, y'all have heard the news about Shawn Chacon and his altercation with Astros GM Ed Wade. Chacon apparently does not want to relieve; he'd rather start. The problem is, he hasn't pitched well in his last five starts. The Astros have subsequently released Chacon for his actions and he has until Monday to be claimed on waivers by another club. So much for him helping the Astros.....
So, now, the Astros are going to pursue a guy who started out in their farm system a decade ago, but still has a chance to come back after injuries. It's Freddy Garcia, who last pitched for the Phillies. They're going to be looking at him the next few days.
The Cards are going to activate Mark Mulder off of the DL. He'll be used as a reliever for now, possibly taking over temporarily for Jason Isringhausen. They also need a pen lefty with Randy Flores going on the DL, with Izzy, too.
Ken Griffey is making an offer for his 600th home run ball. Check this out.
And interleague continues this weekend, guys. The battle of Ohio will be tonight at Progressive with the Reds and the Indians. The battle of Chicago was won today by the White Sox, 10-3, at U.S. Cellular, as the Flubs have begun that weekend series, and it should be good. But the real big game happens in Houston tonight, where a sellout crowd is expected tonight as the Red Sox take on the 'Stros at Minute Maid. I just got back from vacation, and I got to see last night's Astro victory over the Rangers, 7-2. Wandy Rodriguez had a great night on the mound. The Pirates are hosting the Rays, and the Brewers are in Minnesota.
The "flubs" gag got stale after the 483rd repetition. Think of something new.
