I am a bit surprised but so glad to see it happen. It's nice to hear about another team, no, see another team, kicking some ***** in the AL East. I get tired of hearing about the Yanks or Red Sox. I would love for the Rays to win that division and start giving people a new team to love or hate based on winning and not losing. Gotta be an exciting year for the fans. I hope they start showing that team some support. I hear the attendance numbers are still a bit low. I could be wrong on that so don't flame me if I am.

I love it that the Rays are in first and just swept the Red Sox. For the Rays to beat out the high-payroll Red Sox and Yankees will be great. But do I think it will stop the Boston-NY lovefest on ESPN? Nope.
The crowds really are getting bigger... was there last night and it was a sell-out with a majority (over 50% AT LEAST) being Rays fans. The new ownership has done a great job of creating a fun atmosphere at the Trop and are doing their best to attract families (you can bring in your own bottled water & food, for instance). One thing that is difficult for outsiders to realize is that the Tampa Bay area has ZERO reliable, far-reaching mass transit. I live just an hour to the south and the only was to get there is by car. I think moving the spring training to Port Charlotte will help as well because they will create a regional fan base that will hopefully follow them throughout the season! They are looking so great, and the guys are all so likeable... they've made huge strides this year in advancing their presence in the sport.
I mean, how could you not like Joe Maddon? He has the coolest glasses in baseball! But really, he's so well-spoken and even-tempered, and it's obvious the guys like playing for him. And he's the smartest man in baseball for bringing Evan up.

And a native of right here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.....Hazleton.
who watched 1st & 10 yesterday?!?!?!?!?! they said that the Rays having success was not good for baseball........WTF?!?!?!?!
Who said that, the idiot Skip Bayless? This is fantastic for baseball, and I'm a Sox fan. What isn't good for baseball in Florida is a division leader (in the AL East of all places. It's not like it's the terminally mediocre NL West, after all) drawing only about 18-19K per game. This is the best team in baseball, and no one goes to see them. If the Rays win the Series, I hope the team's victory parade takes them to Charlotte or someplace that will support them.
And hopefully, Bayless will never be heard from again once the show goes off the air next month.

YES, it was Skip Bayless, and the other dude agreed with him. WTF?!?!?!?!! that just shows how much ESPN wants their beloved Red Sox and Yanks to win their excuse was "There needs to be superstars in the postseason, so there will be higher TV ratings", man it's hard to watch ESPN now......

We can only hope.
