Did you know.....from 1987 to the present, only one team with 100 wins in a season went on to win the World Series (1998 Yankees, 114-48). But in that period, six 100-game winning teams lost in the Fall Classic: the Athletics in 1988 and 1990, the Indians in strike-shortened 1995, the Braves in 1999, the Yankees in 2003 and the Cardinals in 2004.
Did you know...that you can have all sorts of fun with statistics? Go back one more season and double the number of hundred-game winners who've won the World Series (1986 Mets, 108-54).
Did you know the pitcher with the most career wins without ever reaching the world series is Phil Nekro with 318 wins, just edging Gaylord Perry with 314.

I think a fun statistic is that the Mets haven't won a series in 22 years and counting....
Did you know........ (make sure you use a question mark, everybody) .... that Alex Rodriquez has hit the most home runs in a season without being intentionally walked (42) since Roger Maris in 1961?? A-Rod accomplished that in 1998. Carlos Quentin of the White Sox had 36 this season, and that's tied for second-most since the Maris feat (he had hit 61 that year).

Did you know...that by winning the World Series in 2008, the Phillies have now pulled even with the Mets as having won twice? Of course, it took Philadelphia 105 years to accomplish this.
Did you know that Rod Carew won the batting title in 1972 with a .318 batting average and 0 home runs. The 2nd part had never been done before or since in the American league?
Did you know that Babe Ruth ranks 20th all-time for home runs by a pitcher with 14? 'Course he only pitched for about 4 and a half seasons.
Did you know....Carlos Zambrano may not be the Bambino, but he's got 16 home runs in just 6 1/2 seasons as a starting pitcher for the Cubs, including six in 2006?
Five of them have been against the Astros, with four in Houston.
He also no-hit the Astros this year. A true Astro killer.

Actually, in 1918 and 1919, Ruth's last two seasons with Boston and his last two as a full-time pitcher, he hit 11 and 19 home runs, respectively. Interestingly enough, after he came to New York, he pitched in a total of five games between 1920 and 1933 (all starts), and won all five of them.
