If Boston Gets Teixiera? (pitcher, Red Sox, Yankees, Reds)

If the Red Sox get Teixiera where will he play? Assuming he plays 1st base, what to do with Youkilis, if Youk moves to 3rd what do they do with Lowell?

You can't move Lowell, 1st he took a discount to stay a Red Sox in the 1st place and that would discourage others from doing the same, plus he wont net as much as Youk would.


I think they should move Youk while his value is at his highest. If the Angels miss out on Teix they will surely be interested.

There's an old theory in sports that you get the best available personnel. If Boston can sign Teixiera, then that's what they should do--worry about who's going to play where afterwards.

I don't think Youk's year was a fluke, so I doubt this would be a matter of "sell high".

They will trade Lowell. They'll probably have to pick up some of his salary and not get as much as they would for Youk but they would never trade Youk. With Lowell's injury and age, they can't risk getting rid of Youk.

signing Teixiera and trading youk would not make sense as the net gain would be very little. I also think they would trade Lowell if they sign Teixiera

John Henry sent an email to the AP stating that the Sox are "not a factor" for Mark Texeira. It appears the negotiations with Boras have gone bad - shocker! It may just be Henry trying to call Boras's bluff on other offers.

I'm thinking bluff too, if Boston is really out of it, I wouldn't be too upset. That's a lot of money and years, I would rather the Sox get a quality young Catcher, and maybe a boom or bust starting pitcher (Ben Sheets).

Teixeira is supposed to make a decision today, we'll see if that happens.
