Marlins Stadium Renderings
It's been a long, long process to even get to this stage. The land has been cleared, the initial approving of funding completed, legal challenges conquered and another year put into the timeline (2012 vs 2011)
However, the marlins have released their rendering for the proposed marlins stadium.
Will be voted on by the county commissioners in about 2 weeks. I believe the city is already on board so the final approval of the county board is all that's left. Looks like it will be close, but there were probably enough concessions made to get it done

That's a little bit of a switch from what they used to propose, as they scaled back some things, but it will certainly be better than their current home.

So Far, So Good
That's going to be very impressive. It should fit in nicely with the South Florida landscape, with an ultra-modern design, but still with a few traditional elements. What I'm going to like is that quirk in the center field wall, especially after owner Jeffrey Loria previously said there wouldn't be any. Nice touch. They appear to have some good sightlines. Looks like they'll do a porch in right field. If you zoom in, take a close look at the miniscule foul space they'll have. It also looks like they'll be putting in a swimming pool beyond the outfield wall area a la Arizona's Chase Field, even though I think this one will be done one better. Can't wait to see more!

yeah - on the outfield renderings they stated they want to do a beach area with sand and a pool ....... loria's artistic touch was adding in an animatronic marlin that jumps out of it's tank when the marlins hit a HR
i also like how they kept the bermuda triangle for the most part (just made it less severe)

Yes, it will. The Orange Bowl has been demolished.

A new Marlins stadium should be cheap. Their fan base can fit on the bleachers at an average little league field, so few sets of small aluminum bleachers should handle the pathetic crowds that show up to see the Marlins.

c'mon now - they front run just as well (if not better) than phillies fans
i went to college in philly and sat in the vet on many days when the crowds were pathetic ...... and that was with a stadium that was easy to get to and weather that was a lot more pleasant
just like in philly, build a stadium that makes going to a game enjoyable and attendance will pick up

I still think the Marlins would have been better off if Broward County stepped up and they were building there stadium there.
In downtown Miami they wont get anyone from Palm Beach County and very few from Broward on a consistent basis.
As to the Phillies point, when the Marlins started in 1993 they drew very well, and they continued to draw well through the championship season of 1997 and then ownership broke up the team. That didn't sit well with the fans and they stopped going, In 03 they got good again and the fans began to take notice (they averaged 50,000 fans the last 2 months of 2003). After they won the World Series fan interest would have been at an all-time high but they gutted the team again.
How would you feel about the Phils if they unloaded Howard, Utley, Rollins, Hamels and Lidge before the season started?
And got in return minor leaguer's who may be good a couple of years. They're a tough team to root for.
