Tigers have released him, despite owing him $14 million for the season. Any other team can pick him up for league minimum, Tigers on the hook for the rest of his salary:
I like Sheffield, and if you're in need of a rightfielder or even better a DH,this is a great pickup. This could be a real good pickup for a team like the Orioles,Blue Jays,Indians,Royals.
For a team who needs a bat and has space on their team roster, he would be a great pick-up for $400,000. Even as a DH, he's worth taking the risk on, and let the Tigers pick up his salary.

that's the problem, he's not playing right field anymore and his bat has fallen apart. at his old age he probably needs to shorten his swing to be effective. the huge hitch power swing hasn't been cutting it.

His timing is a bit off,but it'll come around. He got hurt last year and hasn't been able to put in the time like the other guys in camp but another week or two and the guy will be back to normal.Any team that's willing to DH him can get at least .275 avg,27+hr's and in the right lineup 80+ rbi's.Tell me how many bench players or DH's in the league can do that------not many!!!
P.S. Can't count Giambi----he can only hit to one side of the field!
Wasn't Sheffield the player who once admitted that he was slacking off because he didn't like the team he was under contract to, and wanted to be traded? If justice was to prevail, the man would be banned from baseball altogether.
I hear the Phillies are interested. Maybe then, he'll start the season by cracking #500 off one of his former employers, the Braves. I saw him several times in Spring Training, and I honestly think he'd be better suited for an American League team for the DH.
I can see Sheffield going to another AL team. No way will he move to the other league, despite one outrageous idea by a Houston Chronicle sportswriter.
