and for that obvious reason, the voting of the fans should have a weighted factor applied. Fan voting should amount to a minority of the reason someone is an allstar. Voting by the players should have a factor in it with voting by the managers (none by the owners) having the largest emphasis.

I have always wished the Red Sox players would stay away, it's a long season and a 3 day break in the middle to rest is better than playing in an exhibition, but now that Selig attached meaning to the game I want them there to help the cause. But I still think Selig is an idiot.

It's not meaningless considering it determines home field advantage in the WS (which I think is a dumb rule). I'm not saying the Phillies are going back to the WS but in the rare instance they do, I'd like to have home field advantage
