This took place in the bottom of the 10th yesterday, remember Rivera worked out of a major jam. Now we see he had a little help...don't the Yankees, with all their spending, have enough of a competitive advantage without cheating?

That is probably one of the most asinine accusations. The guy doesn't need help. He's been unbelievable almost his entire career. Someone would have caught him by now.

Oh, and a spitball is doctored with vasoline, not spit.

In Game 2 everyone was throwing wet pitches.

Maybe he's been throwing spitters his entire career?? I am totally kidding. I agree this accusation is ridiculous. As a die-hard, life-long Red Sox fan, I hate the Yankees with a passion but I have so much respect for Rivera - and Jeter for that matter; A-rod, not so much.

This is such a non-issue.

Yep, non-issue.

If a guy who's been around as long as Mariano Rivera, a guy who has revolutionized the role of the closer in baseball, actually wanted to cheat... why would he stand there holding a baseball in that spot and spit on it while standing upright? In the history of cheating that would probably be the lamest attempt at cheating ever made on the mound, and after all these years he would have been caught doing something like that by now.

Apparently the reporter had to justify his job and write such a silly article, which was subsequently linked by an uninformed OP.

The haters are always going to hate. It is sad.

They clearly are not spending enough. The first rule of cheating is don't get caught.

For all you that wish to remain blind...it is ILLEGAL to doctor a baseball.

Rivera is standing with his back to home plate, and after glancing over at third and second to see if those umps are looking, spits on the baseball.

Now if that's not cheating, what is it?

I have a bad spitting habit, it drives the wife nuts. I was walking out of the office last week and I went to hock a nice one into the bushes on the side, but for some reason it just kind of limped out of my mouth and landed on my pant leg and shoe. Thoroughly gross. Point is, sometimes, even will all the spitting experience we sometimes lose control, maybe thats what happened here? Seeing how every pitch he has thrown for the last however many years has been on TV, you think if he was doctoring baseballs often it would have already been known.
