Yes, but it will be fun watching the Phillies, an actual team (not just a payroll), beat the Bankees.

I wonder if this will be George Steinbrenner's last World Series...he has been very ill this year and only attended three games.

His illness will probably motivate the Yanks to win the WS.

Go Phillies your right my friend.

We need to slay this Dragon (Bankee's) starting tonight. Just Imagine in the years to come, thinking back how the NL got their Butts kick in the All Star game. Then when it truly mattered the Fightins won Back to Back Championships during the era of free agencies and a bad economy.

World F'n Champions.

As will the passing of Harry Kalas motivate the Phillies even more.

And really what did Steinbrenner mean to the team other than opening his wallet to outbid other teams?

There are plenty of bad things you can link to Steinbrenner. The Winfield situation was an absolute disgrace. Had he not been suspended he would have run some very key players out of town. He's not going to win any Good Guy Awards.

But what did he mean to the team? I don't know if there's another owner in sports who has put such a great emphasis on winning. You can criticize him all you want for how he went about it over the years, but the rules are the rules, and the Yankees stay within the rules.

I loved and still love Harry Kalas, and I've pointed it out in other threads, but it's not fair to compare the contributions of a GREAT announcer to an owner who actually once contributed (in his own way) to putting a dynasty together.

Good idea, but we couldn't do it after 9/11 so it just depends on team unity.

The Business Of Baseball - Forbes.com

This says that the Yankees are one of the top 5 teams in reinvesting in player salaries.

However,
The Business Of Baseball - Forbes.com

This article, which appears to be where the first article got the Revenue data from, shows the Yankees with a loss of $4 million. I'd be willing to bet that that wasn't the case.

Unfortunately, MLB financial data is very hush hush
