^Actually, now that you bring it up, it seems to me that Bonds could be dangerous as a DH, at least once he gets back into game shape.
Can you imagine him with a contender after he settles in.I bet the guy could easily hit 30 as a full time DH especially at a stadium with a short right field fence/porch(Hint,Hint!) Just kidding. I don't ever see the Yankees going for him because they would be afraid to disrespect Matsui, by going for Bonds as a fulltime DH.
I have no problem allowing Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Rodriquez, Ramirez, Clemens, Palmiero and all of the other statistically qualified juicers into the hall of fame....but identify them as such. Require each of them to have a picture of their butts being injected. This picture would then be prominently displayed on their Cooperstown plaques. If they refuse to submit to this humiliation then BAN em for life. They're already doing it to Pete Rose. His so called crime had far less effect ( if any ) on the outcome of games. If a single one of these guys gets voted in, baseball owes a HUGE apology to Pete Rose, and an immediate, retroactive-to-his-first-year-of-eligibility induction.

If he was 5 years younger, maybe. But he's 44, never mind all the controversy. I can't think of too many players having an impact at that age. Nolan Ryan might be one.

Darren Oliver,Jaime Moyer might be a couple of names to check out. Also even though Ryan had a bunch of no hitters and a crazy amount of strikeouts,he was just above a 50/50 win-loss.

Darren Oliver is only 39 but Jamie Moyer has been effective to an unusually advanced age. 12-10 in 2009 and he just turned 47.

Depending on your position it can be done but not always common. If Bonds properly prepared himself in the offseason and came to spring training and played,i'm sure he could be effective. In a stadium with a short rightfield fence like Yankee stadium,i'm sure he can still hit a minimum of 25-30 as a DH.Playing the field,I don't think he could hack it anymore.

I often wonder what Ryan could have accomplished with contending teams.

He had a great fastball but pretty much a one pitch pitcher.I think he would have had a better win/loss obviously but I don't think it would have been a significant difference.

I think that with good teams Ryan could have been a 400-game winner.
