You very well could be right but in baseball steroids and PED's are king of the crucified and the fans wont forget it either.
Here's the thing about public opinion: it's kind of like the popular vote in a Presidential election. Nice to have and all that, but in the end, it doesn't affect anything. How often does a player get benched because 'the court of public opinion' went against him? The team needs him in the lineup, he plays. You can boo and jeer until your face turns purple, but he'll still be in the lineup.
