It just seems to get worse and worse. Lee gets the loss tonight and is now 0-5. He has allowed 20 earned runs in the last 24 innings. They had no starting pitcher a few night ago and the bullpen pitched the entire game - giving up 11 runs. How you even get to the point where you have zero options in the minors of calling up a pitcher I can't even imagine knowing how pathetic your bullpen is.

At least Utley is back and is actually hitting the ball.

I'm surprised the fans haven't "trashed" cliff lee yet on the radio for the season he is having. How did he become so bad so fast?

So bad???

From 2008 to 2011, when Cliff Lee was Cliff "Maybe the Best Pitcher On the Planet" Lee he:
walked 4% of batters
struck out 20% of batters
given up 20% line drives
given up 44% ground balls
given up 36% fly balls

This season Lee has:
walked 5% of batters
struck out 26% of batters
given up 18% line drives
given up 48% ground balls
given up 34% fly balls

If anything he's been slightly better.

I think the pen blew a couple of games for Lee but he hasn't been good this season.

His ERA is certainly going in the wrong direction. And quite honestly I don't think anyone cares about any stat other than that.

He might be injured. Who knows.

It's always a injury when a Phillies pitcher is playing poorly and not that his skills maybe on the downside or age maybe playing a factor. You can't use injury as an excuse when more than one pitcher is not performing at a high level in the same season.

I can't honestly understand why anyone would use ERA to judge a pitcher's effectiveness...

I want to know why this is being overlooked

Lee is rocked in the 2010 WS

Lee blows a 4-1 lead in 2011 first round playoff game

Lee is winless in the 2012 season

So he has been on the decline for the past 3 years

Because it means absolutely nothing
