Buster Posey was placed on the DL and his season is over. To replace him the Giants have called up a 25 year old career minor league catcher, Aramis Ramirez. In five seasons he has batted .253/.315/.409, but he played in Triple A for the first time this season and his slashline was .233/.285/.381 with 11 home runs in 349 plate appearances.

If you graphed out the Giants record this season, it would be a fairly flat line with minimal wavering. At no point in the season have they been better than 4 games over .500, at no point in the season have they been worse than 4 games under .500. The two peaks of being 4 games over came on May 7th and again on June 30th. The valleys of four games under .500 were May 30th and August 22nd.

Their current record is an unsurprising .500, 67-67.

It's a roster loaded with guys who probably aren't going to be on the next competitive team and it has made for a dull season.

The Giants have a shot tonight at something they have been unable to achieve all season....dropping five games under .500. They have never been above or below four games from .500 since the season began. It demonstrates what a blah season it has been that it takes something like this to create an interest in tonight's contest with Colorado.

Colorado leads the NL west by half a game and the San Francisco giants are bottom feeders. Who cares how many games they go below .500? To race the Padres to the bottom?

If you're a baseball fan worth your salt, you'll root for a team that's got something going for itself.

I was speaking only of Giants fans. Colorado fans will of course have their own, partisan perspective on the game. This is the Giants thread, so you can't expect to find people concerned about how the Rockies do.

They aren't an interesting team this season, but they did manage to sink to five games below .500
tonight.

Win or lose, I am a Giants fan. They're my home team. Even if the A's make the playoffs I will not be as interested in following them because...they're not the Giants.

SF dropped its 6th straight tonight to the Brewers, going six games under .500. Not too surprising when you consider that the team's leader in batting average and on base average, Posey, isn't playing any longer, and the team's leader in home runs and RBI, is now playing for the Yankees. Those guys were also the WAR leaders on the team. The Giants do not have a single player who has compiled even 2.0 WAR this season. The only guy with a shot at it is Brandon Crawford who is at 1.5.

The team is hurting for star players right now, that's for sure.
