WE GET SWEPT BY THE D-BACKS? REALLY???

We’ve lost 7 in a row on this road trip. Something is seriously wrong. Especially after last season’s 107 wins. What do you think it is?

(sigh)

Thank you Sergio Romo

GO GIANTS!! And then there was one…

https://imgur.com/a/BTGkygx

Thank you Sergio Romo for your contributions to the San Francisco Giants dynasty of 2010, 2012, and 2014. With your retirement last night, only one player remains active out of the ‘Giants Core 8’, the eight players who played in all 3 World Series: Madison Bumgarner. The other seven have finished their playing careers.

There was the Core 8, and yet there is a ninth player* who has all three rings. Can you name him? See the end of this post.

The Core 8 by last name and position are:
Posey Sandoval Lincecum Bumgarner Affeldt Casilla López and Romo.

The first to retire was Jeremy Affeldt. By dates of their last games, here are the Core 8:

● #40 LHP Madison Bumgarner (remains active)
● #54 RHP Sergio Romo — last game 2022-07-14; final appearance 2023-03-27 (spring training game)
● #28 C Buster Posey — last game 2021-10-03
● #48 3B Pablo Sandoval — last game 2019-09-01
● #46 RHP Santiago Casilla — last game 2018-07-13
● #49 LHP Javier López — last game 2016-09-29
● #55 RHP Tim Lincecum — last game 2016-08-05
● #41 LHP Jeremy Affeldt — last game 2015-10-04

* — the ninth player to have all three World Series rings is #18 RHP Matt Cain. He did not play in the 2014 postseason but he received a 2014 World Series ring. Matt Cain finished the 2014 season on the disabled list after having surgery on 11 August 2014 to remove bone chips in his pitching elbow. Anticipating this, the Giants picked up former NL West nemesis Jake Peavy on 26 July 2014.

■ #18 RHP Matt Cain — last game 2017-09-30

Thank you to Sergio Romo. GO GIANTS!!

Giants are hanging in there.

If the season ended today (8/12/23), the Giants would make the postseason .

They're currently in second position among the three Wild Card spots.

End of play Tuesday 8/29/23.....

Giants now hold the third/last Wild Card spot in the NL (would again...after slipping out....qualify for the playoffs if the season ended now).

They're a half a game ahead of Arizona.

And they're only one game behind the Cubs re the second Wild Card spot.

As of the end of all 9/10 games....

The Giants are still hanging in there.

Four teams are competing for the third and last Wild Card spot.

Only 1.5 games separate the first team from the fourth team, and the Giants are third out of those four teams.
