I know most people have their opinion of who it is and I like most others I thought it would be my Yankees but I was wrong, they were #5; unbelievable.
#1- Cleveland Indians
#2- Boston Red Sox
#3- Cincinnatti Reds
#4- Houston Astros
Wow.....with some of those teams, they might be going more on the fans of those teams being disgusted with their losing ways and cheap owners (Indians, Reds, Astros, etc).
Boston I can see...they're despised by Yankee fans, and other fans have tired of bandwagon Red Sox fans coming out of the woodwork since 2004-07.
But I still have a hard time believing that the Yankees are not the most hated.
ESPN loves the Yankees thats why they are not the most hated. In reality. the Yanks and Red Sox are the most hated. Even outside of the rivalry against each other
The Cleveland Indians are the #1 most hated baseball team in the country? If anyone had suggested such a thing to me, I believe I would've laughed in their face.
I suspect a healthy injection of nonsense has been applied, since the whole thing seems to stem from Nielsen, and their "formula," which involves consumer reaction to their on-line messages. That doesn't really have anything to do with the Indians as a baseball team. But, in today's world where headlines trump everything else, ESPN scored a big one with that piece.

I don't think that ESPN loves them. I think they love the following of the club. Personally I agree with you and believe that the Yanks and Sox are probably the most hated even though this study shows differently.
When I see Chief Wahoo, I turn into the Hulk and start flipping cars and uprooting trees.
That's a completely different issue. And it leads me to predict the birth of a Sports Mascot thread. I know I hate some mascots more than the teams they represent.
