Shelby Miller is left in the game in the 2nd inning for 50 pitches. 50. Of his last six batters, he went to a full count on five of them and didn't retire any of them. How long does it take to figure out that he is not mowing them down, and the score is going to keep running up until you do take him out? Fifty pitches? And with two days off in the last five, you have extra depth in the bullpen.

It's getting late, the only reason I haven't turned it off is I want to see Colon's perfect game.

Our winning streak ended yesterday, but we get Holliday back today. We need to get a new streak going, and Atlanta is real good.

What the hell happened yesterday? I move to release both Freese and Holliday, in that order. Freese isn't even a shadow of the beloved 2011 World Series version, and Holliday has proven that while he can swing a bat very hard, a good high school outfielder could outperform him in left field.

Since I wrote that ,the Cardinals are playing .500 ball, 24-24, and have won exactly six games against teams now above .500.

Molina is now on the 15-day DL with a sprained knee.

They aren't a bad team, it is just their misfortune to be in the same division with a wealthy powerhouse like the Pirates.

Don't worry either was Suppan when the Brewers went belly up for him after his NLCS MVP in 2006.

I still have nightmares about Freese from 2011 when the Brewers played the cards and he went 17 for 18 or something crazy like that.

I thought Rzepczynski was a good reliver, I was surprised to see him go.

Maybe we owe Matheny the compliment that he might be willing to try Plan B. After only 25 stolen bases in four months, the Cardinals stole three Wednesday night, and a couple running last night on pitches fouled off. I think maybe 6 or 7 times in the last two games, they had the runner take off.

Another recent attitude change, Matt Holliday, who has the second fastest bat speed in MLB, after coming back from the DL is hitting virtually every ball in play to the right side, and is 11 for 30 (.367). He was hitting only .268 before going on the DL. He also stole two bases in the last two games, for a total of 5 on the season.

Sweet! Now we can teach him to catch the ball...

A couple weeks ago, I understood the Mets announcers to say that the Cardinals have not won a game yet all season in which they were ever behind by 3 runs. Anybody know if I heard that right? Also, that they have only won one game in which they trailed after 7 innings. I don't have the energy to go and look at every line score.

Edt--

Well, I went and checked anyway. It happened only once, trailing the Marlins 3-0 in the third, on July 6, the Cards came back and won 5-4. They went behind 3-0 in the top of the third, and scored two in the bottom of the inning, so they have never won a game in which they trailed at the end of an inning by 3 runs or more.

It wasn't that hard to look up, there were only 19 games that they won in which their opponents scored 3 or more.
