And Atlanta isnt in the Central. Atlanta is just as east as Florida. They need South and North divisions like in the NHL. Instead of east, central, and west.
The powers that be have said that it won't happen. Everyone involved wants a full schedule of games as often as possible, and with that scenario there would never be a full schedule except for during interleague play. We live in an era where MLB Extra Innings, Gameday Audio, etc are more important to the decision-makers than whatever the fans want to see.
Detroit is a big market team with a high payroll, they can compete better with the Yanks and Sox than Toronto
Toronto is a bigger market than Detroit and has won a World Series more recently than Detroit. Until the NHL took Mike Illitch's ability to blow all his cash on the Wings, the Tigers definitly did not function as a large market team.

I would leave them pretty much the same, but flip Washington or Atlanta to the NL Central and Pittsburgh to the East....it stinks that the Phils only play against an in-state rival for one home and one away series a year. In the AL, I would move the Rays and Blue Jays to the Central and the Tigers and White Sox to the East.
The pseudo-Midwest Pittsburgh Pirates can stay in the Central Division. Atlanta and Florida should be in the same division, and it wouldn't make sense to move Cincinnati (or Chicago, Milwaukee, or St. Louis) to the East along with Pittsburgh and put Atlanta and Florida/Miami in with Houston, St. Louis, Chicago, and Milwaukee (Houston yes, St. Louis sort of, Chicago and Milwaukee no way).
That Wall St Journal article about getting rid of the AL and NL last week was pretty interesting for those who saw it. The Chicago guys were talking about it and this is how our local division would break down
WhiteSox
Cubs
Twins
Brewers
Cardinals
Obviously, that would be awesome. Rivalry city.
If you got rid of the NL and AL, you wouldn't need to have 6 divisions.
You think having the two Chicago teams, Milwaukee, St. Louis, and Minnesota (or as an alternative, Detroit) in the same division would be good, how about the Northeast Corridor wetdream division - the two New York teams, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington in the same division. The fans would be happy, and Amtrak (and BoltBus and Megabus) would be happy too.

I think you could have six divisions and two wild cards just like now even if it was one massive league. But I know what your saying.
Yeah, the NE would have a crazy division, so would the west coast, LAD, ANA, SF, SD and OAK, the California division...Obviously you would have to put Seattle in there somehow.
The MLB should just get rid of the leauges and conform to time based divisons like the NHL and NBA have done.

If the West Coast teams all stay together and the western Midwest teams all stay together, then the 6 East Coast/Northeast Corridor teams damn well better stay together too. Toronto can go into a division with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and possibly Detroit.
