Here we go! Word today is that Joe Johnson is telling everyone that he wants to be a Knick and would even sign for less than a max contract. I also heard that the Knicks would be willing to sign him to a max deal and possibly a sign and trade if Atlanta is willing to take on certain players. Supposedly Amare and Johnson really like the idea of playing for the Knicks because of previous experiences with Phoenix and with the current Knicks coach. I'm also hearing that Johnson might try to recruit Lebron. Could this be three to NY? Especially if Amare and Johnson come for less.
I'm also hearing that Bosh just stated that Miami is a top contender for his services. Is this a hint that he will be joining Wade? Personally I believe that Wade will resign with Miami.
I see the Knicks signing Johnson before anyone else signs a max deal so this could be a huge bargaining chip. Also if her signs as part of a sign and trade, the Knicks could be dumping more salary to go for a third big salary. So maybe a Lebron,Johnson, and Amare(or Bosh, or David Lee) could be possible.
I'm also hearing that Jerry Colangelo is hitting up the big russian for possible employment. Even though I don't see the big free agent going there, it could be the start of the Nets getting ready before they go to Brooklyn in 2012 or 13.
We will see.
"LBJ reported in a club with JayZ and when the song "almost home" came on he was pointing to the floor, as if he was indicating his new hometown. Knicks or Nets?"
Paraphrased from a rumor I just read. At least this is almost over and we can all stop talking about it.

Knicks get to drop Curry's contract off the cap next year so they can make another move then. In the old days they could have paid someone bad to take Currys contract right now but they fixed that loophole.
The ESPN talking heads were ripping on the Knicks yesterday...it was almost painful to watch. In a nutshell their comments were along the lines of:
-the knicks have been horrible for ages and trusting the ownership to make good decisions is dicey
-their fans and media seem to think they are an attractive option "just because we are new york"
-It's unlikely NY will attract even the 2nd tier guys behind Lebron and Wade.
I was a bit shocked at how they were group bashing the Knicks.

I'm not surprised. It is warranted. You have a great city with horrible ownership that has made horrendous previous decisions. This offseason has alot of no-brainers though. They will definitely sign Johnson but after that who knows. I'm not even a Knicks fan but feel bad for them. Curry is the epitome of what has happened to the franchise. He would be great to dump in a sign and trade for them. I do see them getting 2 big names at least and then filling in nicely whether with or without Lebron.
Anyone think a Johnson/Bosh combo would be better for Chicago than a Lebron/Bosh combo for Chicago. Johnson gives 3pt shooting which keeps the defenses honest from sagging down low to double on Bosh?
Honestly, anything really can happen in free agency. It can be so unpredictable. The Mavs are pursuing Lebron and the Rockets are going after Johnson too. All rumors of course.
I question why Joe Johnson is even being mentioned as a 'max-player'...obviously these teams don't care much about playoff performances as his PPG has been 4-5 points less in the post-season and he has shot 40% from the field and less than 30% from downtown the past 2 seasons in the playoffs. He is essentially Allan Houston light.

I see the Knicks picking up maybe 1-2 fluffed up players like Johnson or Amare and over-paying them with long-term contracts. They will do this because they will be passed over by the 1st and even most of the 2nd tier free agents and will have the cap and do something semi-desperate.
They will then hover around mediocrity for a couple years and then try to rebuild. This isn't necessarily bad, it's hard to jump from bad to contender so sometimes you have to make small postive steps. However, the NY media will just dog on the team making that nearly impossible so the Knicks will probably implode. If there were no real cap in the NBA then they'd have a prayer.

Yeah, I even feel the same way about Bosh to a lesser extent. He is being talked about like LeBron and Wade, as far as his impact. Bosh is a top level NBA talent, but he is not top 4 like both of those guys are. Joe Johnson just has to be happy to be in the conversation, he isn't even in their ballpark.
Another angle for a team that loses out is that 'Melo still hasn't reupped with Denver (I think) and he becomes a free agent next year.
