He basically said that he is more afraid of the Lakers than the Heat because the Heat still have to learn how to play together and have to prove themselves.
the Heat still have to learn how to play together and have to prove themselves.
Seriously, what is Rondo supposed to say? The Lakers beat the Celtics, so he has to give them props. And the Heat is in the East, so he can't give them much love. I guess he has some credibility cuz he has a ring...
Are the guys in Miami babies learning to walk? Have they never met and never seen each other play? They'll figure it out. It isn't that hard. It's not like football players learning a complicated offense. They HAVE played together successfully. Is anyone going as far to say they won't be good at all? Who's predicting that? It's Miami, Orlando, and Boston (in no particular order). And it'll come down to health, who's hot, and foul trouble - like it always does.
And yet the Celtics won the very first year the Garnett-Allen-Pierce trio played together, in 2008. That team hadn't proven anything yet either, and it all came together for them in one season. Who's to say it couldn't happen again with the Wade-Lebron-Bosh trio? It's become en vogue now to bash on the Heat, probably from people who see the threat they potentially are, but won't admit it to themselves. Bring on the 2011 season.
Rondo can say that because whenever they play the Heat he will absolutely destroy Mario Chalmers. But yeah the East has some real high level competition (Hawks, Magic, Celtics, Heat, and Bulls) and everyone else is in the JV league.
As long as the Heat can dethrone the Lakers, Im all for Miami dominating the league. There is a good chance that will happen too. However, its true that there is no guarantee the new Big Three will have good chemistry. When they step on the court we'll actually get to see if these guys can keep their egos in check for the entirety of an NBA season. We'll also see if those guys can stay healthy and how not having much of a bench plays out. I still think the Heat will dominate, I just don't see it as a given, at least not yet. Rondo is 100% right. It all looks good on paper but no games have been played yet.

The difference is that 2008 Boston team was one of the best defensive teams of the last 20+ years. Scoring won't be a problem for Miami. Stopping the ball (especially in the post) is where they will be challenged. Both LA and Boston proved they can defend the post extremely well.

I'm not referring to their respective teams defensive process. I raised that point mainly to show that it is possible for 3 singular stars to come together and become an instant success. While that Boston team is certainly the better defensive squad, they also aren't as offensively gifted as this new Heat trio. If the Heat can outscore you, and play 'enough' defense to slow you if not outright stop you, that may be enough. I don't know, everyone thinks they're an expert on how this team will develop. All I can do is take a wait and see attitude. But having 2 of the top 3 players in the league, and the one of the 5 best power forwards in the game, is a pretty good starting point.
Yea having a super-offense is great as long as you can make stops once in a while. And it's not like these guys are slouch defenders. This isn't Amar'e or Carmelo or Dirk we're talking about...

True. With people bashing on the Heat, it might be to their advantage now. They're gonna play with a big big chip on their shoulders now. I was hoping for reverse psych where people would pretty much tell them what they want to hear about winning so they might be complacent. By crucifying them, they will have that extra ump to win now.
