Instead of the slam dunk contest at this years all star game, rank the top 32 players in the NBA and put them in a 1 on 1 march madness bracket style tourney. Four regions of 8, the #1 seeds would have to be: Kobe, KD, LBJ and....mayyybe D Wade? Obviously this would never happen, but that would be such a cool event.
Kobe would own him. One-on-One is all about post play and good jump shooting. Kobe is a sick defender and could make James shot jumpers more often than dunking. James is not a good jump shooter and we will know Kobe is one of the best ever.
James would get more rebounds but I think Kobe has better stamina even though he is older. James has more muscle and the more muscle mass you have, the more oxygen you need to move around.
Kobe vs Kevin Durant
Now THAT would be interesting due to the similar play offensively and KD is much taller.
Don't know what one on one games you've played, but it's more than simple post play and jump shooting. It's about playing to your strengths, whatever they may be. Lebron James is one of the greatest slashers to the basket and finishers the game has ever seen. Kobe has the tools to beat him if his jumpshooting is on, but own?
No. Furthermore Kobe and Durant aren't remotely close in their offensive styles.
What else is he supposed to say when asked that question?
At this point the mileage is really catching up to Kobe. I am a Laker fan, but I would put my money on LeBron in a one on one game. I think his physical dominance is enough to overcome Kobe's more refined game at this point. Of course, let's keep in mind they play two different positions and two different styles. LeBron is bigger, stronger and more of true small forward. He is at his best when in the open floor. Kobe is shorter, slimmer, and at his best on the wing, and in the post due to his excellent footwork.
I say forget the boring dunk contest and give us some one on one games for All Star weekend. Kobe vs. LeBron, Chris Paul vs. Derron Williams (the winner plays Steve Nash), Pau Gasol vs. Dirk Nowitzki (the winner plays Chris Bosh), and Paul Pierce vs. Ron Artest (no fouls in this one, everything is fair game).
Good idea Cali, but you'll never see it. These guys don't want to ruin their credibility by losing in a one on one. Same reason why the 'big' stars no longer compete in the dunk contest.
Lebron would talk about how he could beat Kobe if he could pick two other players
