I Forgot about Rondo, thats my vote for top pg because of his great passing ability. He doesn't really need to be a scorer on that team because its such a deep squad.
he is super lucky he has all the scorers around him because he cant hit a jumper/free throw/3 point to save his life. when he gets an outside shot he will be a beast.
Rondo usually sneaks into the the top 3 when you break down the top PGs, but I also think people underestimate the value of the sick team he has around him when it comes to what he accomplishes on the floor.
Rondo is purely a playmaker and defensive menace. His jumper is too erratic( non-existent may be a better choice of words) for him to be a primary scorer. It will be interesting to see him when the 'big 3' have moved on, and he's leading the way, unless the Celtics get some other players on that team to share the load with him. It's hard to tell at this point whether the big 3 benefit more from Rondo, or vice versa. Perhaps a bit of both...... he's not a 20/10 guy like Paul or Williams, not with his offensive limitations. Working on his jumpshot to complement his slashing game would take him to the next level.
1. CP3 (all around game, few holes, slightly better D than D will)
1a. D-Will (excellent court vision, pick and roll master, improved 3 point shooting)
2. Rondo (Amazing athlete, limited due to poor free throws and shooting in general)
3. Everyone else: Rose, Westbrook, Nash,
Most improved pg- Jrue Holiday...this kid is the future and can play!
yeah but that franchise is cursed..
i'd love to see rondo on a team w/o superstars...and see what he does
in some ways westbrook has a lot of options too like tony parker
I watch the Celtics alot and Rondo is amazing. He excels at the pure point guard responsibilities but is below average on the shooting guard responsibilities. He does not have to shoot with 4 hall of fame players on the team. He does dish to others on the team as well. Many times the finish is relatively easy for players like Big Baby.... He is the perfect guy for this team...
While he 'doesn't have to shoot', it would be to his advantage, and certainly to the Celtics', for him to work on a consistent jumpshot. That merely adds another wrinkle for the defense to have to plan for. Right now, teams can sag of Rondo and play him for the drive.
John Stockton wasn't really a prolific scorer either, but that didn't stop him from being considered the best point guard for a number of years. Rondo is a traditional point guard in the pass-first mold. The question remains as to what kind of player he 'really' is when he no longer is backed up by his hall of fame teammates.

But Stockton was a significantly better shooter than Rondo is now. The fact that Rondo can't make open jumpshots and freethrows makes him as much a liability as an asset on the floor, particularly in the late stages of close games. You could rely on Stockton to make FTs...same can't be said for Rondo. Until he improves that facet of his game, he can't be considered for the top spot among PGs.
That said, I vote a tie between Deron Williams and Chris Paul.
