Do people actually believe that the Lady Huskies could handle a men's Division II or III team, let alone any UCLA team of the past forty years?

UConn alone at the top after 89th straight win - College basketball- NBC Sports

I mean, congrats to Geno Auriemna and his women's teams for an amazing accomplishment -- but please don't say they beat the UCLA men --at anything.

Agree 100%. But the media seems to want to ignore the apples-and-oranges facts, and play it as UConn is the greatest basketball team ever. Heck, they wouldn`t be in the top 200 of NCAA men`s teams. They might be in the 100 boys high school teams, but even that is a stretch.

Dude, if some pee-wee basketball team wins 89 games in a row, that is in itself an accomplishment. You missing the whole point of this streak.

What hype? This is the first time in a very long time womens basketball gets press. It is impossible to even touch this feat in mens ball due to the NBA. The WNBA is a joke so chicks don't leave school early to earn...?

The difference between men's and women's basketball is huge, men's is above the rim, while women's isn't. The UConn women practice against men, 7 men to 5 women. Even John Wooden's grandson said the following:
Quote:
Greg Wooden said in the last decade of his life, coach Wooden thought the best basketball was being played at the collegiate level, "and it wasn't by the men."

He said his grandfather believed that women's teams, especially Connecticut, were playing his style of basketball, and liked the way they emphasized team above all else.

"He liked the way they passed the ball, the way they had quite a few stars who could have scored probably a lot more points on other teams, but were willing to sacrifice for the best of the team."
John Wooden would have loved the UConn women, says grandson - ESPN

They broke the streak that UCLA had. That is an admirable feat no matter what team, men's or women's, or even what sport that is in.

Give them credit for doing this but no way in hell does it compare to what UCLA did.

As a women athlete who played basketball in college, I can tell you that they have done very well, but no way would I compare them to the amount of competition the UCLA Bruins faced in their streak.

No comparison at all. Even if they won 100 in a row I still would not put them in the same sentence as UCLA.

I remember beating college teams 120-35, 105-30 etc when I played, as the competition was not so good for a quarter of our schedule.

You won't find a to many weak spots in the UCLA wins if any at all and the UConn girls have beaten some very easy teams along the way.

UConn has the women's record.

UCLA has the men's record.

No comparison.

Period, end of story.

Sunny hit that one.

UCONN ladies have done something rather astounding, but let's be honest here....I am sure the competition back in the UCLA streak days was better than what UCONN women get now.

UCONN blew out Florida State ranked #23 or so by 30. UCONN and anyone other than Tenny or Baylor or a few others is a blowout. The depth is just not there.

It's not often that even a guys team gets blown out--ranked or not--like that now unless it is Dook and some botton feeder WAAAAY down in the 341 D1 bouncyball teams now matching up.

So, congrats, but it's just ESPN filling idle time between bowl games.

Whether men or women, the amazing thing is the mental part of it. They still stayed focus no matter what to win. That is what amazes me. Sometimes when you see that your next opponent is a nobody, chances are you will take them lightly and could end up losing. Also, some days you are just not feeling it and the focus is just not there. For them to do this and win 89 is pretty amazing stuff.

Does anyone think that when they do lose to end the streak that it will be against a mediocre or good team?
