We've seen "good" players (look at Orlando) after Shaq left town turn into mediocre or worse when they were no longer getting wide open shots and single coverage. Kobe had to adjust his game, and he did....but make no mistake about it....Kobe had a transition period post-Shaq before finally arriving at the pinnacle of his abilities.

I know there are a lot of Laker fans that conveniently forget that Kobe hasn't always played at an MVP level...these are the same ones that shooed Shaq out the gate because they felt Kobe was the best player in the league at that time. Oooops. But for a gift-trade of Pau Gasol.....they'd still be moaning in LA.
Well, as far as going from losing the finals to a .415, do remember that Shaq left, as did Malone and Payton, and Kobe suffered an injury at a point when they were over .500 and in the playoff hunt, and that took them to a below .500 team.

We're not in disagreement regarding Kobe. Definitely he got better 2-3 years after Shaq left, coinciding with the MVP award in 2008, but my main point is that in 2006, you could make the argument that the Lakers relied on Kobe moreso to be as 'good' as they were( which was a bottom-rung playoff team) than the Suns relied on Nash. Those Lakers were a bunch of marginal role players( besides Odom), and while yes Kobe chucked a lot that season, the Lakers still benefited from it because no way they were winning 45 games if you removed him off the team, or even if he played a bit more scaled-down. He had Smush Parker and Kwame Brown in the lineup, it's not as if he had decent options to work with.

Fair enough. The MVP is really not a "fair" award in general. I personally rely upon all-nba selections when I consider a players rank amongst their peers.

Rose once again owning a team with a quality defender playing on him. He also has 7 assists in the first half and has been playing stellar defense.

That Bulls-Hawks game last night was ugly. Lakers and Suns was a classic, though....

Yeah. Rose and the Bulls down the stretch have kicked things up a notch. They've beaten the elite teams, caught up to the Celtics.....

Not sure he will win MVP but he's got as good shot. Tough tough year for MVP voters.
