the knicks really made a mistake by giving them that russian center. Now they have no legitmate 4 or 5 man except for Amare. They are still missing 3 other players to have a good roatation between those two postions.

This is a good move by the Knicks in that what they gave up is not irreplaceable in free agency.

However, the bottom line is that they still just don't have leaders that emphasize defense and that sets the tone.

Frankly, the Knicks have done a good job of climbing out of the cellar but looking at the east they will have to make a lot more good moves to have any chance of progressing far in the playoffs in future years.

I think this is the basis for acquiring Chris Paul in 2012.

what good is a defensive leader when your coach preaches getting a shot off in 7 seconds or less and push the pace? d'antoni is the defensive problem and these players fit that perfectly. the knicks made this move to sell seats not win int he playoffs.

Considering that Anthony made no secret of the fact that New York was where he wanted to play, and he was about to become a free agent, then it seems to me that Denver should have been the desperate team, not the Knicks. Why trade anyone when you could have gotten Anthony without giving anybody up?

Basically, what happened was that the Knicks gave in to pressure that was created by the media. I bet the decision came from James Dolan--Donnie Walsh was told what to do, in no uncertain terms.

I had a conversation like this a year or so like this where I warned that Dolan wasn't going to suddenly become hands off.

However, even still....I don't think it's a bad move in that really you can only play 5 guys at a time and even in the playoffs 7 guys carry most of the minutes. If you can get a top 10 player in the league....you do what it takes and the Knicks really didn't lose anything that can't be replaced.

We will see what the future brings....with CP they start running out of cap room so what then?

i would say amare, melo and cp would rival miamis big 3 right off the bat. it would all depend on who they can get to sign for real cheap to fill the roster. i think miami gets A LOT better next year when they can sign a good midlevel exception guy. the biggest difference between the 2 teams would be the defensive end of the floor, eric s is a bit more of a defensive coach then porn stache is.

I would not want Melo on my team, but that is just personal preference. I am sure plenty of NYK faithful are happy about this. The East is pretty stacked now (they were before, but this makes it even better) which is a tad annoying for my Bulls, seeing how the Knicks might be in the 6 seed (hopefully they climb) and the Bulls are likely going to be the 3, thats a tough first round matchup. It might be a tad early for all that though.

The Bulls would destroy the Knicks. Now if they start adding pieces and emphasize defense then yeah....down the road maybe but even then I don't see Amare and Carmelo changing their spots at this point in their career. (In his defense Carmelo is not a bad defender, just not good IMO)
