Is it me or are the Spurs starting to look a "little fraudulent?"
Six straight losses and now only one game ahead of the Lakers for the number 1 seed.
Out of the 6 losses they lost to Memphis and Houston?
So can they really be taken seriously as a championship contender? Actually for the month of March they lost to Memphis and Portland Twice and this is not a good look as they head into the playoffs. I also think this season maybe the turning point in the Spurs run. It happens to all teams eventually
Bad Boy Pistons-1991
Bird's Celtics-1988
Magic's Lakers-1992
Iverson's 76ers-2003
Rip Hamilton Pistons-2007
Duncan Spurs.........2011???

The Spurs, despite their fast start are running out of steam while the Lakers are building momentum when it counts.
It's how you finish that matters.
The Spurs don't have the youth to be able to sustain for a WHOLE season. They were winning lots of games due to their experience but now their age will be a factor during the end of the season and the playoofs.
The Lakers are playing better than ANYBODY in the league right now.
Despite all that I've said, anyone would be foolish to doubt the Spurs. They are still VERY dangerous but I'm putting my money on the Lakers.

Can you provide a breakdown?
To me it seems like a big part of the issue is "coasting".

i would tend to agree, i think they got a little to comfortable with their lead. i also think that seeding and positioning for opponents was in play. i cant prove either/or BUT think about it, the spurs do not want to face the griz (someone ALWAYS seems to get injured and they are very tough) but they would like to face the hornets. so nobody knows are the hornets going to be the 7 or the 8. lets make this closer so we can lose a couple games to drop if we need to. hell, if NO is the 7, and dallas is the 3, the 2 seed is looking like a pretty soft route right about now.
sure its a stretch but its no more stretch then "the spurs look flatulent".

It depends if you took them seriously in the first place.
I haven't in quite some time.
Nobody is scared of the likes of George Hill and Matt Bonner on a regular basis, Big Fundamental is a Big Stiff now, and the Lakers showed everyone on one particular Sunday afternoon in San Anton' that they have nobody that will get loose on a playoff-caliber defense...you know, not junk defense like the Rockets or Warriors, that is.

Fraudulent as in they didn't deserve the 50-something wins?
In my opinion they've over achieved for their roster - I've never considered them the best team in the NBA. They often back off on pressing for wins in the last month of the season while resting starters and giving backups a lot of playing time. They've already clinched a high seed.
They're a top tiered team - and any top team can win it all if they get hot at the right time.

^^^^Ah yes, it's bandwagon time for the Lakers.
The Lakers' are 1-2 vs. the Spurs this year and 2.5 games behind them in the standings.
Make no mistake that the Lakers have had injuries this year and the Spurs have undoubtably coasted down the stretch.
Both teams are in the top 3 in the NBA right now and both teams are one injury away from major issues so anything can happen.
