FWIW, the 1988 Lakers-Mavericks Western Conference Finals 7 game series wasn't even as tough for the Lakers as their 1988 conference semifinals series against Utah (which also went 7 games and the Jazz won a game at the Forum, unlike the Mavericks series where the home team won all 7 games) or their 1988 NBA Finals series against Detroit (the Lakers trailed 3-2 in the series before winning 2 tight games at home in Games 6 and 7; the Pistons had a particularly good chance of winning Game 6 in that series).

I think Dallas' win over Portland was huge for them, and winning the clincher in Portland was a real positive. The Mavericks are also underdogs in this series against the Lakers, so they don't have much pressure on them.

This series goes the distance, with the Lakers winning in 7 games.

Eve though I rooted for the Lakers that year they were very lucky to win the title in 88

Not to get anyones hopes up but the Dallas teams of years past were more offensively oriented which as we all know is a quick trip out of the playoffs for ANY team.

This years Mavs finished a respectable 10th in opponents pts. scored (Lakers were 8th) and 8th (Lakers 5th) in the most important Opponent FG% category.

So, while I favor the Lakers in this series I expect Dallas to make it a fight and perhaps come out the victor.

Dirk and Chandler are one of the few combos capable of matching Gasol and Odom. This series will rest on the Mavs ability to defend Kobe imo....
