For the past couple years I have watched coaches coaching their players in locker rooms before playoff games and possibly at halftime. They say things that don't seem too technical, things like "We have to do a better job rebounding.", or "You guys can do it, I know you can." In other words, a pep talk; not a things I would expect an NBA coach to say professional NBA players. I would expect more strategy, technical stuff - stuff that the teams probably wouldn't want being broadcast on TV anyway. The stuff I hear the coaches saying sounds like something I'd say to be 7 year old before a game. These guys don't need motivation. The coach needs to blend the talents synergistically to win, outline plays, provide game themes - definitely more technical stuff.

This is different than the mini white board scrawling I see coaches do on the sideline with 4.7 seconds left, down by two. That is real.

Lou Holtz replying to a compliment that he was a great motivator "I'm not a great motivator, I just know how to weed out guys who can't motivate themselves."

Most likely it's just them summing up what they talked about the whole days they've had up.
