Not winning a championship doesn't make a player a failure... If jordan didn't retire on and off Hakeem would not have a ring either.. Would he have been a failure as well? What about barkley a 6"4 power forward dominated the league that was dominated by all time great centers and big men.. That is the same height as D wade but average 11 12 13 rebounds in different seasons... Was he a failure? The list goes on and on... Stop it with the whole championship or bust logic

Since Dirk has been with the Mavs the team has been booted out of the first round more than once and was part of a 6 game sweep in the NBAfinals. You are measured by wjat you do in the playoffs

If it weren't for Robert Horry having probably one of the worst games of his career, the Lakers would've 4peated.

Dominique wilkins never got out of the second round but is in the hall of fame... Winning a championship is like icing on the cake for a great players career... If anything what will keep Dirk as not being considered one of the greatest of all time is that he is mediocre at best on the defensive end of the ball

Lets continue with this nonsense talk........If Isiah hadn't gotten hurt in game 6 of 1988 Finals, the Pistons would've won the title.....if Magic and Scott hadn't gotten hurt in the 89' Finals, the Lakers would've won... If Rockets had a healthy T-Mac, Yao, and Mutombo, the Lakers would've lost in 2009' playoffs...If this...If that...

And speaking of lists, here is a number of players who are HOFers who did not win an NBA championship; Pete Maravich, Alex English, David Thompson, Charles Barkley, Bob Lanier, Nate Thurmond, Walt Bellamy, George Gervin, Dan Issel, John Stockton, and Rick Barry are just some of dozens and dozens of players.

Not winning an NBA championship making an NBA player a failure? Huh?

So if the Mavs lose the Finals and Dirk retires what would you say about his legacy?

He was a hell of a player who didn't win an NBA championship. Just like all the others I listed. Nothing more, nothing less. I certainly wouldn't be calling him a failure and neither would the HOF selection committee who would elect him in. After all, theirs is the opinion that counts in the end.

I know if this Mavs team was in Philly Dirk would be getting ROASTED on the radio after losing twice in the Finals. Wonder how they will feel in Dallas

Dirk is nearly universally loved in Dallas.
