I really feel that he as to win this title because his team has had so many playoff failures and he has not stepped up in most playoff series.

Since the 2006 Collapse

They lose in the first round to Golden State in 2007
They lose in the first round to Hornets in 2008
They lose in second round to Denver in 2009
They lose in first round to Spurs in 2010

At 33 this maybe the last shot for him to get a ring and I have to think that his legacy in Dallas would not be that great if he has a full decade of playoff failures year after year. So do you agree he has to win the finals to make up for 10 years of missed opportunities?

No. It might be his last chance but the pressure is on Lebron to win it more than ever. I agree with Stephen A Smith on this. Click on "Dirk/Lebron:Who Needs a Title More".

Lebron is 25 and has a good 7 to 8 years left while Dirk may only have 2 years left and Lebron needs it more? That is complete BS

Karl Malone - much more egotistical than Dirk. If you want to ridicule someone for not reaching what they claim to be, it would be him imo.

The coach lost the 98 Finals for the Jazz so I don't consider Karl a failure especially since they made it back to back.

That distinction should belong to one Karl Malone. With his lousy attitude and dirty style of play perpetrated on the league for all of those seasons nobody deserves to be called the biggest all-time loser than him.

OK, that makes sense.

Dirk has FINALLY earned mainstream respect after what 12 years? Lebron ran his stupid mouth before the season even started. Before these playoffs, Lebron couldn't hit an important shot minus the prayer against Orlando which still didn't make a difference in that series.

Dirk won't be anywhere near the biggest failure. In fact, this is a loaded question. This type of question isn't asked about average or even good players, its only about the very best. It's insulting to say Dirk is a very good player but he's still a failure.

I consider Gilbert Arenas the biggest failure in the NBA today regardless of what happens in this series. Dude made stupid decisions and is now a bench player. Either way, Dirk and James are still going to be top 5 players next year.

I would go with Karl myself.

If he was not so selfish of a player maybe the TEAM could have done better.

Dirk is not selfish and has a TEAM around him that he knows he needs to win and involves them.

Karl wanted to ball every time down the floor and forgot he had other players on the floor.

There are a few others that never won a ring and had several shots but it is really hard to blame one single player in a team sport but since you wanted to name one I would go with Karl over Dirk also.

I agree and Karl had Stockton and Hornacek among others. Dirk has an uphill battle and if he wins it he deserves it. If he doesn't it's probably because Miami had 3 stars that Dallas couldn't keep up with.

There is scrutiny on Lebron more than ever. Most have high expectations of him. Also considering what happened last summer, anything short of a title will be failure for the Heat. He is gonna have to win multiple titles for the media to put him in elite status.
