I agree Garnett had the fastest fall from grace, one of many reasons I put him squarely at #3 in that group.
That also shows how good Dirk is, you have to go back to 08-09 where Duncan averaged as many pts as Dirk is this year and to 07-08 for KG.
Dirk and Duncan played so differently its really tough to compare. I agree with what you said about not tearing down one to make the other look better, can you send Rigas that memo??

Rebounding was not bad at all especially his playoff stats.

Dirk - playoff stats all time vs KG and Duncan

Dirk - 25.4 pts 10.2 rebounds

KG - 18.2pts 10.7 rebounds

Tim - 21.2 pts 11.7 rebounds

Best playoff year stats for each:

Dirk - 28.4 pts 13.1 rebs - plus he's outside far more than those guys!
Tim - 27.6pts 15.4 rebs
KG - 27.0pts 18.7 rebs
Duncan has nearly twice as many playoff games as dirk, he's the all time rebounds and blocks in the playoffs.
Funny you like them playoff numbers, yet the sample size isn't even remotely comparable.

I'll give you he's the best scorer yet not necessarily the best offensive player.
Steaks don't make you a good defender.
How man all defense teams has dirk been on? Oh that's right, zero.

Duncan was all nba last year, dirk hasn't been on an all nba team since 2012.

Don't worry about it math, this is typical slo taking shots at me nothing more.

I really don't see where there is an argument to be had here.

The original thread is that Dirk is marketable (yep) and has had a long prolific scoring career.

He'll go down as probably the 2nd best PF of his era.... ahead of KG but behind Duncan....and all 3 are 1st ballot unanimous HOF players.

We can exchange stats and talk about what if's in terms of whom started playing at what ages and in team systems etc. but the big picture view doesn't change.

Totally agree. Duncan gets the nod in large part because of the 5 titles, understandably so. I was ribbing Rigas a bit because he's always knocking Dirk because of the spurs/mavs rivalry.

this is where youre misguided.
hes not considered the best PF of his generation, or arguably ever "in large part because of the 5 titles" maybe its the fact he and kareem are the only 2 players to have 25,000 points, 15,000 rebounds and 3000 blocks. maybe its the consistency, the stellar defense, the 10000 post moves, the 15 all star games (including 2015 at age 38) the 3 finals mvps and 2 regular season mvps, the 10 all nba first teams, and 15 total all nba selections, the 8 all defense 1st teams and 15 total all defense. the rookie of the year didnt hurt. hell the only award he hasnt gotten is DPOY and not many can figure out why.

these are all individual awards, and accolades. those 5 rings are just a bonus.

but hey dirk won the 3 point shoot out in 2006.

Lmao. Good stuff.

A "system" a good coach and an owner that butts out could have maybe gotten dirk another ring, and maybe taught him how to play defense. Who knows he might have been able to pass KG on the PF of this generation list.

Perhaps now and in the near future we will see how much the Spurs system helped Duncan. As of now it seems like the Spurs are a 60-70 win team even without Duncan/Ginobili. If the Spurs keep plugging in new players and winning I think it'll be evidence of a great system that a lot of players never had.

Perhaps, maybe 3/4/5?
KG is an afterthought at this point!
