It's pheonix east guys, pure and simple. They won't even make the ECF if they have to go through either Miami or Chicago.
Not even sure they can beat boston

I think NYK can be better than Boston this year. Boston is due for a huge drop off it not this year, certainly next. KG is inching closer and closer to no longer being elite and that will drop them a notch below the NYK imo. Rondo is the most overrated player in the league imo (we have discussed this one in length). Pierce is soft, and Ray I think will still be a viable asset to any team he is on, but he is not going to carry any team. My preseason power rankings of the east go like this:

1. Miami
2. Chicago
3. New York (I think they will improve from last year)
4. Boston
5. Orlando (pending Howard playing there)
6. Atlanta
7. Indiana
8. Milwaukee
9. Philly
10. Charlotte

If Dwight goes to the Nets or something like that, this changes. As far as the Knicks at 3, I am not really all that high on them, I just think the drop after Miami/Chicago is significant and I'll give them the edge just because they will be an elite offensive team.

Nene back with the Nugs

Sources -- Denver Nuggets re-sign Nene to 5-year, $67M-plus contract - ESPN

I'm surprised, I figured he would get a little more and sign elsewhere. Good for him for staying loyal.

New York getting Chandler is HUGE, and I say an even bigger difference maker than if Paul joined them.

So how do we feel about the Mavs getting Odom & Carter. Give up Chandler, Peja & Barea.

I kind of feel like Cuban is simultaneously making sure the team is still good, but prepping for a possible move later....

Dallas just took One Step Forward and Two Steps Backward.

Probably so. I think they are still top 5 in the west, but dont think they can repeat with this squad. Reminds me a bit of a few years back when they brought in Antawn Jamison and Antoine Walker....didnt work well.

Maybe. But I think they have gotten more athletic outside of the 5. I'm not sad to see JJ Barea go. He is terrible defensively and played out of his mind in the playoffs. This is Roddy time hopefully. If he steps up, he can fill the void of the loss of JJ, they will be alright there. Dallas is still one of the top 3-4 teams in the West, though along with Dallas, OKC, SA, and introducing Memphis.
