You could definitely see some slippage by MJ that final title season too, though he was still 'Jordan' of course. I honestly don't see that squad getting past the 99 Spurs. And I think you can forget about 2000. Prime Shaq and a young Kobe would give a 37 year old Jordan problems.
Yeah, I can buy this about 99. I admit, the sting of the bulls going from Dynasty to league basement in the blink of an eye made me a jaded NBA fan in 1999 and I didn't really pay too much attention to how good the spurs were. I just know they had two good bigs, and the Bulls would have no counter for that, outside of Jordan, well, Jordaning - if thats a word. I still think though if that Knicks team came out of the East the bulls would have had a good chance to get to the finals.

I don't think 'the Jordan factor' would have worked here, not with Pippen a shell of who he was from the back surgery( not to forget a 36 year old Jordan). I just don't see it...the thing that makes that Bulls dynasty so mythical is that once they got going they were never defeated. We never saw someone take the baton from them the way we saw Jordan take it from Magic. I'd assume that had the Bulls somehow managed to squeeze another title in 99 ( again I don't see it), they'd have met their come-uppance at the hands of the Lakers. There's just no way a 37 year old Jordan, with a diminished Pippen, aging Rodman and company, would have beaten a prime Shaq and a blossoming Kobe Bryant.

I wonder who Phil would have been coaching though....

I still strongly believe that Jordan could have eclipsed, broken Kareem's record

well since Kobe Bryant is still playing, he has a chance to break, surpass MJ on the scoring-list, but i'm sure if MJ had not taken those years off, MJ could have brokem Kareem's record, or just that Kobe would not be able to surprass him, and plus, since the Lakers got Dwight Howard and Steve Nash now, a lot of Laker fans/Kobe Fans are going to be using arguments against MJ's legacy if and very likely Kobe gets a 6th ring, and possibly a 7th ring, but I will still think MJ is better than Kobe
