Pop would be a close 2nd with all the new guys on the team and still running over other teams.

I agree that Pop should be coach of the year.

My criteria is which coach got the most out of the talent of the players in his team.

Nobody honestly expected the Spurs to be this good this year. Not only were they well coached, Pop, went out and made some key acquisitions that helped beef up the Spurs bench.

I give Thibodeux credit for having his team give a consistent effort game in and game out despite injuries.

Now the third choice gets a little more interesting. New Orleans really didn't have much talent to begin with so I don't know how much credit I can give Monty Williams.

The guy that NOBODY has really talked about is Frank Vogel, coach of the Indiana Pacers. They have a 42-24 record, for the #3 seed in the Eastern Conference this year, and they did it without having any players that would considered "elite" NBA players by most people.

The clippers are right where most people expected them to be, or even underachieved.

You don't win COTY when you get handed a top 5 player in the league to pair with a top 10-15 player and then come out 5 th in the conference.

Frank Vogel... anyone?
Pacers having their best season in 8 years (7th best season in their history)!
Indiana have been a under .452 team for the last 5 years.

Last year with O'Brien they started with a 17-27 record, Vogel comes in and they win 20 of their last 38 games and make the playoffs for the 1st time in 5 years.

You make a good point. I haven't followed them closely enough to weigh in too heavily but all of their starters have been healthy all year which means they didn't have to re-****** things and so forth.

Hmmmmm.

Again, if this is a traveling award and Pop and Thibs are out then I still think Karl is the guy to beat as a longtime veteran coach that's never won.

Also, I loved him in on 3rd Rock from the Sun.

You can be handed the best team on paper but that doesn't necessarily equal a winning team. Chemistry is everything. Rotating out players does take a talent.

Well let's put it this way, at one point in time this season vinny was on the hot seat. There was a lot of talk of if he would even last the season with the clips. There is no way a guy who was potentially fired is going to win a COTY in the same year.
