I pick the Heat to come out in the East.

Tough, tough break for Chicago. They aren't totally dead yet, but you have to figure Miami is the favorite out east now if they play to their capability. Chicago would still be a tough out for Boston, because losing Rose doesn't affect two major advantages the Bulls have over the Celtics: size and rebounding.

Where the loss of Rose is 'really' going to hurt, is against Miami. He is that one guy who can get you buckets in crunch-time. Without that element, the Bulls will still be a tough out because of their defensive tenacity, but they don't have the firepower to overcome Miami now. Heat in 5, same as last year, or 6 if Lebron has a bad game or two.

Early finals prediction, as things stand now? Miami and San Antonio.

I didn't think that the Bulls would make it even with Rose. I don't see this team winning the championship with Boozer and Noah. I've never been impressed with these two. Bulls may not even take the East, but don't expect them to compete against the Western conference champion for the title. Bulls will now fall short of expectations.

As for Rose, he always worked very, very hard to get his points. Too hard in fact, so this injury comes as no surprise to me. His style of play did not favor longevity, and I'm afraid that this injury makes it less likely that he will return and continue with the same style. He needs to be smarter in how he scores and helps the time now, and his return will signal the beginning of his maturity. We have seen the last of the "slash and burn" version of Derrick Rose IMO.

I'm afraid you're probably right about this. I was hoping that we'd get a few more seasons of dynamite explosive highlight reels before this happened.

Has anyone ever come back from an ACL tear and performed at or near the same level? Gilbert Arenas is the only recent example that comes to mind and we see how that went.

He will be just fine. Young guys under 30 heal fast. Now Dwight Howard's back injury is worst, they should have traded him for Bynum straight up when thay had the chance.

This isn't the 80's
Today's medic technology allows for pretty much 100% recovery
