Quite correct. The only instances I can think of were Hakeem in 94( there was no Clyde on that team, and it was mainly Hakeem and really good roleplayers) and the 2003 Spurs which featured prime Duncan, an old David Robinson, rookie Ginobli and still-developing Tony Parker. Those were more aberrations( and testament to the greatness of Hakeem and Duncan those years).

Another aberration; they were a team with several very good players, but not one dominant alpha superstar.

I would agree they where an aberration if not for them making 4 consecution ECF and 2 consecutive nba finals with one ring.

2003 was also Tony's 2nd season to go with manus rook season and the shell that was David Robinson.

The East was very weak at that stage as well, not taking away from that Piston teams accomplishments. I mean they're an aberration in that there was not one single 'superstar' player on that team. That's the only team I can think of like that in recent memory.

I loved watching LJ get whooped by the Mavs last year. I loved to "hate" LJ. I have to admit, I started feeling sentimental about the guy. Yeah he has 100s of millions of dollars that I don't have, but at the same time he was the most scrutinized player in ANY sport, in my lifetime (44 years). I was very happy to see him get his ring. Good Job...Good Effort!!!

Enough with this garbage every championship team has hall of famers and all stars.

Out of all those you mentioned, only Shaq & Kobe are somewhat a valid argument. Miami has arguably 3 of the top 10-15 players in the league, and probably 2 of the top 5 including the most talented player.

So to your argument - Bulls - yes Jordan & Pippen were 2 of the top 10 players in the league, but Rodman not in the top 15, maybe top 25-35? BTW, Jordan & Pippen were both drafted by the Bulls - quite a big difference than teaming up.

Lakers - Shaq & Kobe definitely 2 of the top 5 players in their primes - however, they had no one else who would be in the top 50, but did have big time role players like Big Shot Robert Horry.

Spurs - Again, all 3 players DRAFTED by the Spurs, probably 3 of the top 15, but none in the top 5 except maybe Duncan in his prime.

Lakers - Worthy, Kareem & Magic - both Worthy & Magic drafted by Lakers, and they got Kareem long before either Worthy & Magic came on the scene.

Celtics - Bird, McHale & Parrish, all drafted by the Celts

Rockets - Hakeem & Clyde - not even worth arguing, for one it's a duo, two, they wouldn't have won had MJ not had his baseball sabatical, and three, Clyde was at the tale end of his career.

Mavericks - Dirk, a top 5 or so player in the league, but Kidd is at the end of his career; and Marion & Chandler while quality players, are not top 10 or 15, more like top 50.

Celtics - on some ends a valid comparison, but it falls apart when you consider all 3 were in the twilights of their careers and Garnett & Allen were acquired via trades while Pierce & Rondo were drafted.

Bottom line, James & Bosh went to Miami as free agents to join Whiney Wade. Some credit to James as he finally clutched up in the playoffs and dominated like everyone knew he could, but at the same time, when you have 3 of the top dozen or so players in the league (not just 3 good players - of course every championship team has 3 or more good, all-star quality calibar players, they wouldn't get there without them!), and you promise not 5, not 6, not 7 championships, it shouldn't be that big of a deal or surprise when they actually win the championship. As Charles Barkley said, the AAU mindset by the players in the game today is the worst thing that could have happened to the NBA.

Minor correction, Parish was drafted by Golden State, and traded to Boston along with the 3rd overall pick, which was used to select Mchale. So yes Mchale was drafted a Celtic, but Parish was originally a Warrior.

That doesn't take away from the overall point of your post however, which is sound.

On this point, I think Rodman was more valuable to that Bulls team than Bosh is to Miami. He was too dominant a rebounder, defensive player, and 'irritant'. What Bosh gives you is more easily replaced than what Rodman brought to the table, even though he was effectively a specialist.
