You don't have to be great defensive player to make an impact. Remember John Paxson?

I don't know if they'll win a championship but Nash is an asset and will help the Lakers open up the court better than last year.

And yes, the Lakers were better when they added Sessions.

The 3 headed doberman defense of Jordan/Pippen/Grant covered up any defensive vulnerability on Paxson's end. The current Lakers aren't nearly as tenacious defensively.

Still need an athletic SF; Iguodala would be perfect. Too bad the only way to get him is by trading one of the bigs. They're not trading Pau now and they're not trading Bynum unless it's for Howard.

When the Lakers won championships a few years ago, that team also didn't have the defensive talent of that Bull's team you mentioned.

I'm not saying the Lakers will win the championship, all I am saying is that Nash can only help them.

The Lakers really need Lamar Odom back.

They should have never gotten rid of him.

Kobe was better defensively then, so was Artest, compared to today. Nash is a defensive liability beyond even what Paxson was 20 years ago. Im curious to see how the Lakers will compensate for it.

Not to mention that Paxon played about 15 minutes a game generally against the opponents 2nd team squad.

Hey, if you were adding Nash as a 10-15min a night 6-7 man then sure....he'd do damage.

But seriously, WTH.

Now this isn't a dig on the serious NBA fans but the Lakers have, to put it bluntly, a whole lot of casuals. Clueless casuals. They don't see Kobe getting older. They think Sessions might get them to a title. They blame Gasol and Bynum when Kobe takes 32 shots in a night....or the 10 shots he took in the 4th quarter to blow a 7pt lead vs. OKC singlehandedly losing the game.

And now....Steve Nash is going to help, big-time.

No. They signed him to run up-tempo and pad Kobe's scoring stats.

Prediction: Lakers MISS the playoffs this upcoming season due to old age\injury and no bench.

Lol, I think he played a little more than that but mainly, Paxson wasn't what I'd call a 'poor' defensive player. Certainly he had his limitations, but it wasn't to the detriment of the team like Nash's 'defense' is. The guy literally is a sieve on defense, and it's crazy for anyone to think he's going to put the Lakers over the hump when just about every major championship contender has an all-star point guard who will carve Nash up like a Christmas turkey. Sure he'll help their transition game and get things more uptempo and take ball-handling duties from Kobe, but put them over OKC or San Antonio? Blasphemy.

You are correct, I was just looking at his final years with the Bulls where he was still nowhere near Nash's age as a more reasonable comparison and he only played about 15min a game those end years in his EARLY 30's.

The bottom line is this, there are a lot of delusional people that think Kobe hasn't lost anything as he approachs 33 and that Nash....oh nevermind. There really isn't much point trying to educate the casuals that have already stopped watching the Lakers and never really did watch them except for to sit in front of the TV texting while the game was on. These are the *fans* that won't be watching them at all in 5 years when they are missing the playoffs.
