Word is that the owners gave him the choice because of the mutual respect but Nash liked the Lakers better because they are closer to his kids who are in Phoenix.

I still don't see them as a top-tier team unless they get Howard. Nash is a great competitor (just like Kobe), but the entire team is on the back end of their careers.

I'm sure Russel Westbrook, Tony Parker and Chris Paul all just collectively pooped their pants.....in joy.
LMAO. Cannot wait for Kobe to turn on Nash. It's everyone else and the defense weak Lakers really needed a bad bad bad horribad defender at age 38 to help them out.
Seriously? LOL. How is this big news? It changes jack and shat. Funny to see the news outlets trumpeting this as some sort of "game changer" in the NBA. Seriously? Nah...they are just whores who write press releases for teams that give them scoops.

Meh.....at 38 he's going to get absolutely torched by all the greyhound Western PGs( he wasn't exactly a defensive juggernaut in his prime), negating anything he contributes offensively. This doesn't do anything to push them past the Spurs or Thunder, or even the Clippers really.....I suppose it relieves Kobe of the burden of handling the ball and allow him to operate more in the post and off-ball, but doesn't do much else. The Lakers fortunes will hinge on Kobe's ability to hand-off some of the reins to Bynum, something I'm not sure he's capable of even if he was 40 years old.

Bynum is totally the wildcard on this. He needs to mature. If he can and can keep his attitude in check, then they will be competitive. Otherwise there will be alot of frustration.

If this were 2004, this would have been a MAJOR move. But now, it's a minor move. I am sure Nash is happy to be moving west to Los Angeles where making the playoffs is almost a sure thing.

Sure, he's "old" in conventional terms. But he did average 10.7 assists a game this season, 2nd in the league.
I think he'll be a good presence on the team. They need some fresh legs though, the current team is running out of gas.

I don't think anyone is saying he won't produce, but if this winds up being the Lakers biggest move this summer, it's certainly not enough to vault them over the Spurs and the Thunder.

In his prime he was in the bottom 10-20% defensively for PG's.
