They had this on ESPN last night. Dream team vs. current guys.

Of course Kobe comes out and says they could be the Dream team, Barkley comments back that the dream team guys were in their primes while some of the current olympic squads are not.

One knob commented that the Dream Team had no one to guard Lebron.
Yeah, except that Pippen guy.

Kobe age 34 vs. Jordan age 29 isn't going to end in Kobes favor.
K. Love, no offense but you are up against the mailman in his prime or hey...try guarding that Larry Bird guy.
Tyson Chandler against Ewing and Robinson? LOL.
Stockton\Magic vs. whatever.....advantage dream team.
(For the whipper snappers out there....Stockton was Steve Nash on offense and two Steve Nash's on defense.

Basically other than Lebron, whom Pippen is going to hassle the crap out of....the dream team is better at every position including the bench.

ESPN poll ended 80% vs. 20% in favor of the dream team.

This tells me that 20% of the voters are under the age of 20 and have no idea what they are talking about.

What's funny about Scottie Pippen and Lebron James is that Lebron essentially is a bigger and even more talented version of Scottie Pippen.

Kobe is smoking some good crack. First, a 34 year old Kobe against a 29 in-prime Jordan? Umm Kobe, get real.

Lebron has the advantage over Pippen but Pippen ain't no slouch. Lebron would have to work on both ends there.

Now here's where the 1992 team has a major advantage: INTERIOR PLAY. This is what it comes down to. There is no way Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love, Melo, Griffin as your center and power forwards have a snowball's chance on the interior against Barkley, Malone, Ewing, Robinson. Are you kidding me? The 2008 team would be a good test for the 92 team, but this one? The 92 team had guys like JOHN STOCKTON and CLYDE DREXLER as role players, for eff sakes!

Even with Rose and Howard, I don't see it. Now if a dream team were made in the early 2000s, that'd be a different story.

Rose and Howard would make it more interesting certainly, but really the current team would get MAULED on the inside. Ewing and Robinson could even play as a Center/Power Forward combo, totally shutting down the paint. The current team can forget any ideas of paint scoring if that happens. Jordan in his prime against past-peak Kobe? Paul and Westbrook would have success( mainly against Stockton), but on the other hand Magic would have a huge size advantage on offense. Who matches up with Malone and Barkley? You could probably put Lebron on either and do an adequate job, but who guards the other one?

Had the Olympic committee done the right thing and selected Shaquille O'Neal instead of Christian Laettner, there would have been 12 HOFs instead of 11. Ewing's jump shot was at the point where he could have played the 4 or the 5 interchangably, as could have the Admiral.

I think the 1992 team was the most superior amalgamation of talent ever assembled, regardless of sport. How in the world would Tyson Chandler handle Ewing or Robinson in the low post?

Magic Johnson was probably the most unique player in the history of the game. A 6' 9" point guard, with the all time assist leader in Stockton backing him up. Pippen and Mullin on the wings. Malone and Barkley in the blocks. Oh yeah, I haven't even brought up Jordan yet.

The only argument that could be made against this team was Bird and Magic were old at this point, and they were not vintage. Nonetheless, Magic started every game. Clyde Drexler on this team was the 9th guy. The more I write, the more astonishing the pure assemblage of talent on this team becomes. This is not to take away from this year's squad, which has fine players. However, the 1992 team is the equivalent of The Beatles Revolver album, or Dylan writing Like A Rolling Stone. There are just some things in history that will resonate and morph as time advances.

I think Dream team 2 (1996) would give dream team 1 a better run then this crop. Mainly because many of the players were the same and the center position was better.

JStockton Gary Payton
Reggie Miller Mitch Richmond
Grant Hill (remember how good he actually was, he was the early 90s Lebron stat wise) Scottie Pip and Penny
Barkley and Malone
Shaq, Hakeem and Mr. Robinson

I think they give dream team 1 a run for their money.

Kobe's doing this on purpose to get his squad fired up and motivated.

He knows the 1992 team was better.

Are really, who cares?

As long as they take care of business overseas.

What? Stockton could have guarded either Paul or Westbrook as well as most any guard in the league right now.
Remember, he was a 5x all-defensive team player and in 1992 made 2nd team all defense. (behind Dumars and Jordan)

The paint is indeed a laugher in this match-up. Howard would help that immensely.

Nah, Stockton wasn't a man defender. He was gritty, had good hands, played passing lanes well, but Westbrook is far too explosive for Stockton to keep in front of him. The one thing that would work in Stockton's favor is that he could afford to gamble defensively with Ewing and Robinson behind him protecting the paint.
