The Lakers are moving quickly toward hiring Phil Jackson as their next coach, with one person in the organization calling it a "95%" chance he will return for a third tour with the team.

The Lakers plan on meeting with Jackson on Saturday morning to make sure he is interested in the job. The unknown 5% in their equation is the chance Jackson doesn't want to fill the vacancy created by the Friday firing of Mike Brown, either because of health reasons or other unknown issues.

Why'd he retire in the first place if he's just going to come back?
One of the many reasons the lakers suck....

Sometimes you just get worn down and tired, maybe Phil is recharged?

No idea, maybe the Buss daughter will persuade him.

The Lakers didn't want to pay him the $10 mill/year salary. He wasn't going to work for anything less.

I'm almost positive the Lakers won't win it if they sign him. I'd be totally positive they wouldn't win it if they also signed Lebron.

Chemistry wins, not the sum of the talent.

Ask the 2004 Lakers or the 1969 Lakers.

Pj saw the writing on the wall that the lakers were not gonna win with the last team he coached so he pulled out. Just like he did after shaq was run out, pj wasn't about to coach a crap team and this team on paper isn't crap.

i am guessing that MDantoni will get the job since he won't command the $ that PJ is asking and Nash maybe giving management full support for Mike. Also, he is willing to travel for all the Laker games. Apparently, PJ doesn't want to travel on the road with the team and wants his assistant coaches to coach the team for road games. The way i see it, if you're gonna take the job with an NBA team as a head coach, you should take full responsibility. Not sure why he doesnt want to coach all road games...either you're all in or don't even bother.

If you absolutely ignore age, the Lakers have a hugely talented team.

Give me their current squad in their prime and I'd freaking start hoisting the banner myself.

However, we have a lot of people that don't understand this....so we get all kinds of wild claims here.
