Just because someone has extra weight on them, doesn't mean they are out of shape. Did you know fat people can be in shape? What do you think offensive lineman are doing in training camp and/or the off-season? I had a friend who was in band in college that weighed well over 300 pounds that could probably march longer than the skinniest of individuals.
Even with that said, being out of shape and slow, still doesn't mean he's not good. How are the two related to not being good? No one is denying that Gasol is slow, it's the fact that you somehow equate that to being bad that is mind boggling. You haven't said one thing about his skills. What is it that he doesn't do well? He has a mid range jumper, good post moves, he's a good passer, decent defender. What does he do poorly that warrants your criticism?
I just think it was a poor coaching job by Woodson to have Melo playing defense on Gasol instead of Rasheed Wallace. Wallace is taller and longer and I believe he could have defended Gasol a lot better than the shorter carmelo anthony.
