1. 20 percent? Get real.
2. The NBA legislated away the hand-check and the physical play. The refs are only making calls based on the interpretation of the rules.

How do you know why they play? Do you have psychic mind reading abilities? Or are you just making unfounded accusations about the motivation of players you don't watch play?

The NBA is the best of the best. More or less the best ~450 basketball players in the world. Guys who don't love the game typically either don't make it or get weeded out quickly. You simply can't compete with the best basketball players in the world if you're not dedicated. The competition is far too cut throat for 4/5th of the league to made up by people who don't care, people who do care would win their spot. The idea that the 80% of the best basketball players in the world don't love the game is utterly absurd.

Wait, I thought today's big men were just outside jump shooters that don't play in the post? That's the typical argument from NBA haters. Now you're saying they can't hit jumpers? You guys need to get your story straight.

It's clear that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Here's an example of the nonsense that players today are lacking fundamentals like shooting.

League-wide 3PT%:

2012-2013: 35.9%
2002-2003: 34.9%
1992-1993: 33.6%
1987-1988: 31.6%
1982-1983: 23.8%

1994-1995, when they shortened the 3-point line by 1'9": 35.9%

There is some talk about further lengthening the 3-point line because today's players are too good at shooting 3s, that the midrange game has suffered because the 3-pointer has become too efficient.

What is with only showing some of the playoff games and not others? It just shows how disconnected the NBA is with its fans. If the NCAA can show every playoff game then surely the NBA can do the same.

They show all of them, some are just on NBA TV. Pretty annoying though considering NBA TV is often either not available or only available in the higher tier cable/satellite packages. NFL does it too.

The NFL does this in the playoffs? Maybe I just don't remember, but I thought I watched all of the playoff games.

The NBA is currently in a healthier state than MLB and the NHL.

MLB, while comfortably #2, is becoming increasingly obsolete because it is solely defined and bounded by history and tradition. The perception that it is an old timer's sport is warranted. Attendance is down across the league. When the Yankees and Red Sox aren't drawing like they normally do, that's a bad sign.

The NHL does post better attendance figures, but hockey as a sport caters to an exclusive demographic and the league is tailored to a certain geography. The league's popularity has a ceiling.

The NFL isn't even worth mentioning because it is forever in a stratosphere of its own.

Baseball also has, by far, the worst officiating and least amount of accountability where umps/refs are concerned. Add to that the economic disparity and I think it goes far beyond the historical/tradition aspect (which actually works in its favor, IMO).

It's a 8 month long sport with 2 weeks worth of watching. Only thing that can save this NBA season is a long Heat-Spurs Final
I'm really tired of people who don't watch basketball acting like they know everything about it.

MLB has more 'hardcore' fans. Many NBA fans just like the dunking and connection with hip hop culture.
Your generalizations are very painful.
