What players would you say are the worst ball hogs you've seen play the game in the present NBA? How about worst ball hogs of all time, throughout history?

Today's NBA: Russel Westbrook, Monte Ellis, Jamal Crawford.

All-time: Allen Iverson, Pete Maravich, Antoine "because there are no fours" Walker, Kobe Bryant, Al Harrington, Nick Van Exel.

Big men are more black holes than ball hogs since they don't handle the ball that much. If you're a guard and you throw these guys the ball you might as well just turn around and run back on defense: Jermaine O'Neal, Slava Medvedenko, Chris Kaman.

I would define ballhog as someone that has a large number of FGA's, and a low shooting %. A lack of assists is also indicative.

NBA & ABA Year-by-Year Top 10 Leaders and Records for Field Goal Attempts | Basketball-Reference.com

Here is the list of top 10 FGA's each season.

I REALLY wish I could remember who said it and who they were talking about.....but about 10 years ago at the NBA 3-point competition upon hearing the name of one of the contestants (I think it might have been Antoine Walker)...Somebody (maybe Barkley) exclaimed...."What? Do they know it's not a 3-pt ATTEMPTS competition?"

Oooh burn.

Bob Cousy might need to go on that list. He never shot over 40% any season in his career and took close to 20 shots a game but he did put up around 8 assists a game.

A ball hog is a derisive term for a player that handles the ball exclusively to the point of impairing the team. "Ball hogging" is generally considered unacceptable playing behavior at all levels of basketball competition. It is not a violation of the rules of basketball. The term is highly subjective, and any individual player might be considered a ball hog by some observers but not by ot Ball hogging usually involves excessive shooting of difficult shots, especially when other players are in advantageous positions. Ball hogs attempt to monopolize their play of the ball, frequently dribbling excessively and infrequently passing the ball to a teammate. Ball hogging tends to manifest itself statistically as an abnormally high percentage of team shot attempts by the ball hog and often low percentages of shot accuracy and assists. They also tend to have a very poor assist-to-turnover ratio, used as the main statistical indicator of how well a player "shares" the ball.

The guy with a career 50% shooting, 6 championships and a career assist to turnover ratio over 2?

lol.

Perimeter shooting big men, I never could stand them. I'm talking about guys like Antoine Walker, Lamarcus Aldridge and Zach Randolph. These guys have shot attempt to assist ratios of 8:1 and some years even 10:1. At least with shooting guards you get maybe 5-7 assists to go along with the 20 shots.

In MY definition of ballhog (the playground definition everyone grew up with) , the end result of the shot or whether he has achieved successes/championships is immaterial. Ball goes in and never comes back out.

One word...Kobe. And I agree wholeheartedly with Eugene about Russell Westbrook.
