The voting criteria for basketball HOF inclusion seems to be much looser than baseball or football. It wouldn't surprise me to see Hill and Vince get in eventually, not first ballot but sometime down the line.
I disagree. He was a good defender. That's what he was known for on the Raptors. He averaged 1.9 bpg his last year in Toronto, that's more than Marc Gasol averaged this year and he's a center who won DPOY. Although I think steals are an overrated stat, he averaged 1.5 spg and 1.5 bpg the first year in Orlando.
He was a good rebounder and distributor too. He played a point forward role a lot with the Magic and Rockets and averaged Jordan-like numbers for a few years. 2003 was probably his best year, he averaged 32ppg/6.5rpg/5.5apg.
At his peak he was a monster and could do everything. He didn't really have any flaws except for fading away at the end of playoff series.
It's too bad his career turned out the way it did because in 2003 I thought for sure he was better than Kobe.
Blocks are not a good measure of defensive prowess. See JaVale McGee
so mcgrady was brought up here, he is expected to retire as soon as the finals are over. man did pop throw him a bone this year. signing him last minute, a guy never out of the 1st round now in the finals. if he gets 1 minute of playing time then good for him.
like hill, mcgrady is NOT a HOF player. great athlete, but not hof worthy.
He had a great 4-year college career where he was probably the best player in the country for at least two of them.
Then for Detroit, before he got hurt, for about 5 years he was a top 5 player in the league. Granted the Pistons didn't win much but they had a very weak lineup, without Grant Hill they were about a 20 win team.
Then he would get alot of credit for character... playing so long after bad injuries and always being regarded as a good guy.

so let me ask you this, james harden had a pretty good couple of years in college, has had a pretty good couple years in OKC and a great year in hou. if he plays, oh lets say 2 more years like he did this year, would you consider him a HOF player? i ask this because i see harden and hill similarly at that point, and the rockets would surely be a >20 win team without him right now.
i really feel to many people are using their hearts more then their heads on this, grant hill was a "beloved" nice guy of a player, who had the potential but was sidelined and never lived up to it.
Just based on what he did while in Detroit, Hill gets in.
Vince Carter gets in. The man has the numbers and was an exciting player. Gifted even.
TMac gets in. Another gifted player with good numbers.
