Russell won 12 championships and outside of Jordan we’ve not seen anyone who thrived on winning as much as he did. To him every game was a test of his manhood and if he wasn’t the proudest man to walk the earth he’s certainly in the top five.
But I’m going to pass…
Chamberlin. Think Shaq at 290 and ALL of it rock solid muscle. It was the sheer strength of the man which intimated opponents. Guaranteed to give you 18-20 points/rebounds a game and anchor the defense.
Going to pass again and go with Jabber
Big Lew in his prime would be unstoppable on offense. An almost automatic two. If Wilt couldn’t stop the skyhook do you think Dwight Howard or anyone else could? Try to double up and he could pass and if you put him on the line he’d usually hit those too. Jabber is going give you 28-30 points, 14-16 rebounds and solidify the defense. He would also greatly benefit from today’s officiating which wouldn’t allow the opposition to beat up on him nearly as much it did in the 70’s.
I would have loved to see a young, healthy Arvydas Sabonis in the NBA.
Great point. He was older when he came over and could have really put up some stats in a long career. So could have Drazen Petrovic if he never got into a car accident though. He was a favorite of mine even though he was not a center; just an import..
I believe if you were to put all these guys in a draft at say 20 yrs old...Wilt or Shaq would go #1.
It's just hard to imagine any center stopping Shaq...especially in his prime when he was ~340lbs. It would've been nice to see prime Wilt guarding Shaq. If anyone had a shot at matching his size/speed it was Wilt.

Yeah, no offense to Russell but he had a loaded team backing him up vs. Wilt.

Interesting matchup for sure.
Both had outside interests and fairly easy-going personalities. Neither had the killer instinct of say Kobe, MJ or Russell which probably cost them a few championships.
But I'll go with Wilt over Shaq for this reason: Players often said the one thing you never, ever wanted was to get Wilt angry. If you were luckily enough to dunk on Wilt or pin one of his finger-rolls against the glass and he told you not to do that again. You didn't.
Shaq was equally dominate in his prime but I don't think players worried about him just crushing them when you got his temper going.
