Apparently, the Brooklyn Nets are going to sign Jason Collins to a 10 day contract. Players on 10 day contracts usually aren't very good. He will face the very distinct possibility of being cut when that contract expires. The country will see how well - or poorly - he is accepted.
If, or when, this happens, he will be the first openly gay player in the NBA.

Now all the Nets players are going to be asked questions.........."how do you feel about playing with a gay player?"

Like someone is going to express their true feelings to a reporter

Until proven otherwise, I'm going to suspect that David Stern had a hand in this decision. I'm going to believe that he wanted the NBA to beat the NFL to the punch and get this media attention for his league - but we'll see.

David Stern retired 2 weeks ago and has no say in what goes on in the NBA

That just goes to show how much I know.
That sounds dumb to retire while the season is still in progress.

Collins was a decent bench guy. The only problem is that his playing ability is not really being discussed by the media. All you hear is that he is the first gay player. I'm happy they are willing to be the first team to take this step but lets get real...it is a 10 day contract, so we will see if he sticks. They need to concentrate on the player and his abilities and less about his sexual orientation.

Then when he is cut, they're going to accuse the team for being anti-gay
When he plays bad, they're going to accuse his teammates of making it hard for him

The media is a bunch of useless fknuts
