He's that much closer to the top 10 all-time

I believe your question is incomplete.

What's the question ? It appears to be a conditional type If/Then, so it appears you are missing the then

Tim Duncan is great but he's not a top 10 guy. I'd still rate Kobe above him.

I think they're both about even. Kobe was a superior scorer, but Duncan was much more complete player. I think you could make an argument for either.

I disagree. Tim Duncan has been a role player during these finals, not completely irrelevant but just playing his part. Kobe for all of his championships was the teams primary focal point and they lived or died by him.

We had a long thread about this in the last 6 months.

Myself and several others also rated them about even.

Speaking of focal points, Duncan has more finals MVP's.

He's averaging a double-double in the finals and shooting close to 60%.

He was 1st team all-nba and 2nd team all-defense this year.

P.S. I hope you are referring to just the 2 rings Kobe got after Shaq.

Duncan became a role player around the age of 35: the same age Kobe is now!

As we saw this season, Kobe is no where near the player he used to be either. Though we don't know what the future holds for him, it's almost certain that he'll become a Ray Allen-type role-player if not next season then soon.

To me Duncan and Bryant are clearly the two best players in the post-Jordan era. James might also wind up at the same level, but he still probably has at least a couple more years in his prime before we can definitively say.
